Center Middle School Club Coach - Robotics

Overview:POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Develops and provides enrichment club coaching for 6th Graders for one of the following areas:
robotics, foreign language, music and poetry. Instruction and activities are designed expressly to promote subject mastery and develop grade-level competencies. Enrichment clubs are provided during the afterschool time at the signature program school location.
Responsibilities:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Help students achieve a better understanding of specific subject material and in improving
academic capabilities in designated areas.
- Help students develop the study skills necessary for academic success. Identify students
experiencing difficulties and provide encouragement and alternatives.
- Attend periodic training sessions to increase competency in working with students.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the individual needs of students (e.g. inclusion
accommodations, English language learner strategies).
- Assist students in developing self-confidence, raising self-concept, and reducing anxiety or
fear of failure in academic work.
- Work with students to develop a high level of motivation in academic areas and positive
attitudes toward learning and studying.
- Adhere to all processes, procedures, rules and regulations of the YMCA, the afterschool
program, and School District.
- Identify emergency situations then respond quickly and appropriately.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of participants by; knowing participant locations at all times,
making participants aware of and enforcing appropriate safety regulations and procedures,
applying appropriate behavior management techniques, and maintaining all program
equipment and facilities.
- Model professional communication and provide leadership.
- All youth development associates are mandated by the state of Kansas and Missouri to report
suspected child abuse and neglect and must notify appropriate associates of any suspected
abuse, unsafe conditions, needed repairs, complaints, accidents or injuries immediately.Qualifications:Job Qualifications:- Minimum age of 18
- Possess an understanding of the club focus (robotics, foreign language, music and poetry).
- Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions.
- Able to make independent and sound decisions in a fast paced environment.
- Able to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality
- Detail oriented with good organizational skills, and be multi-task proficient.

to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations. - While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to use a computer
for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart
device. - The associate frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the
work environment. - May be required to assist in case of emergency situations with program participants related to
CPR/First Aid procedures. - The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability
to adjust. - The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
