Position Summary Provide crisis counseling, advocacy, and culturally competent case management services for individuals and families in the Women In Jeopardy Crisis Shelter program at the YWCA Utah. Essential Job functions 1. Provide crisis counseling, advocacy, and coaching to women, men and families in crisis due to domestic and/or sexual violence in order to achieve a client-based plan for self-sufficiency and safety. 2. Support each program participant in achieving his/her plan with courteous, timely and meaningful help. 3. Complete intakes for women who have moved into the WIJ shelter at the YWCA (assess for danger, plan for safety, guide toward appropriate resources, provide support during visit, advocate through system issues and shelter admission as needed). 4. Ensure safety of everyone by monitoring security and intervening in crises as indicated. 5. Support program participants in achieving their self-determined program goals through empathic listening and presence, providing individualized case management and referrals to supportive services within the YWCA and community; track progress in meeting plan for self-sufficiency and safety and including: a. Establish case files b. Assist with documents necessary for section 42 compliance c. Conduct required initial intake and exit assessments d. Provide information/referral and provide/arrange translation and interpretation as necessary. e. Advocate for the access and use of resources and referrals. f. Provide direct assistance to Residential Advocates in addressing behavior issues in shelter g. Coordinate linkages with community agencies on individual and program level. h. Coordinate therapeutic services to women and children in order to help minimize the impact of violence in their lives, including maintaining contact with therapists and clinicians. 6. Provide crisis intervention as needed. 7. Contact agencies/individuals providing services to clients to assure optimum coordination and appropriate referrals. Obtain signed releases for coordination of services. 8. Provide aftercare services to families and individuals as needed after they have left the crisis shelter. Additional Duties and Responsibilities 1. Uphold and act in accordance with the mission of the organization, vision, values and strategic direction of the organization. 2. Demonstrate commitment to understanding and using Sanctuary Model principles, language, and tools in daily work. 3. Model YWCA community standards and encourage program participants and other staff to follow them. 4. Understand and follow all established organizational and program related policies, procedures and protocols. 5. Keep all records necessary to ensure that work is conducted in accordance with agency, contractual, and legal requirements. Records are expected to be complete, accurate, and timely. 6. Satisfactorily perform all duties outlined in this job description. 7. Maintain all certifications and licensing related to role, program licensing, and grant standards including but not limited to: CPR, First Aid, Food Handlers Permit, LCSW/CSW/SSW, etc. 8. Attend all required staff meetings, individual and/or group supervision, agency-wide staff and other trainings, as well as any other meetings and activities as requested. 9. Monitor campus security in collaboration with all staff to protect the safety and well-being of program participants, staff, and visitors. Competencies & Essential Skills: Ideal candidates will have the following: Qualifications Minimum qualifications include a combined 5 or more years of education and experience: Work is generally performed in a safe and comfortable office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: sit for long periods of time; use computer to enter data; use telephone to converse with customers and employees; walk and stand for long periods of time; perform repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement.
