JOB SUMMARY:
The person holding this position is delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with current existing federal and state regulations and established company policies and procedures. The Resident Care Manager must exhibit genuine interest in residents and show patience and understanding while working with residents, families and visitors. Assist professional nursing staff by performing duties in caring for residents of the community. Work under the supervision of the Assisted Living or Reflections Coordinator to provide the following: Transport, bathe, and dress residents; comb hair, clean teeth, assist with incontinent care and toileting; make beds, assist residents with eating, follow and complete task/assignments; provide safety, comfort, and well being of our residents, document on the daily log each shift, and report changes in condition of residents immediately to their supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the duties and responsibilities according to MorningStar’s Standards. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required.

License/Certification: Must have a First Aid certification as required
Education/Experience: Prefer a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to read and write English. Prefer some previous experience in health-care
Continuing Education: As required by law and must attend monthly in-service educations within the community
Other: Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procurement manuals, etc. Must have good communication skills and must be able to effectively communicate in English and understand and follow written and oral direction. Provide maximum resident-care services within limits defined by delegated tasks. Must show good judgment in recognizing symptoms indicative of resident’s change in condition.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in providing resident care services
  • Understanding of standard techniques and procedures used in providing personal services for resident and in caring for equipment and supplies
  • Good understanding of basis of universal precautions to avoid infection of residents and self or contamination of equipment and supplies

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform duties in accordance with established methods and techniques and in conformance with recognized standards.
  • Provide maximum resident-care services within limits defined by delegated tasks
  • Ambulate and transfer residents utilizing appropriate assistive devices and body mechanics and gait belts when specified in resident negotiated service plan and per company policy
  • Routinely turn and position residents
  • Make beds everyday, changing linens per community policy
  • Measure and record residents heights and weights
  • Take temperature, pulse, respirations and blood pressure as directed by the nurse
  • Care for incontinent residents
  • Measure and record residents intake and output
  • Collect urine and stool specimens
  • Assist residents in all activities of daily living
  • Pass out room trays, assist residents with meals, escort to meals when needed, and verify that all assigned residents have received meals
  • Observe and document food, nourishment, and fluid intake of residents if requested by nurse
  • Keep assigned resident suites clean at all times and personal belongings in order
  • Assist with development and review of the resident’s care plan in conjunction with other disciplines
  • Ensure residents privacy, respect and dignity
  • Assist in orienting new resident care managers
  • Participate in and attend monthly in-service meetings, all training and dept meetings
  • Exhibit and perform proper hand washing techniques
  • Maintain proper infection control procedures when handling clothing and all linens
  • Detect, correct, and report unsafe conditions which may result in harm to a resident
  • Receive oral reports and written assignments from Assisted or Reflections Coordinator or lead person at the beginning of each shift
  • Provide maximum resident-care services to assure well-being of resident to greatest degree
  • Assure physical comfort, safety, and mental well-being of residents
  • Assist in daily requirements and tasks in care and treatment of residents, such as toileting, grooming, bathing, feeding, dressing, observing intake of food, care of hair and nails, moving residents from area to area, responding to calls, etc
  • Detect and correct situations that have a possibility of causing accidents or injuries to residents
  • Be aware of and observe universal precautions at all times
  • Immediately answer the emergency call system of each resident
  • Encourage and motivate residents to participate in occupational and physical therapies and other rehabilitative measures to promote activity of mind and body
  • Lead or participate in the Life Enrichment Program and activities as assigned. Provide one on one time for those not able to participate
  • Foster self-respect and esteem by recognizing, accepting, and respecting those entrusted to your care
  • Clean equipment and return to proper place after using
  • Check residents frequently, and before going off duty, to ensure their needs are met
  • Ensure task/assignment sheets are complete at the end of each shift and refusals of care are alerted to the Assisted Living/Reflections Coordinator
  • Assure that residents receiving oxygen have the correct liter flow, their portable tanks filled and then off when not in use, concentrators on when indicated and the large liquid tanks are full and turned off when not in use. Check that the oxygen tubing is off the floor
  • Must have willingness to perform a variety of repetitive tasks
  • Other duties as assigned or requested

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak, hear and write in English. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers, and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit and bend, kneel and squat. The employee must regularly lift and or move up to 10 pounds, and frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities are required by this job including close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
