Cardiology Veterinary Patient Care Attendant Job DescriptionJob IdentificationTitle: Cardiology Patient Care Attendant Department: Specialty Services; Cardiology Schedule: FT Hours – Monday-Thursday 7:30a-4:30p Classification: Non-exempt Job SummaryThe Cardiology Patient Care Attendant is responsible for assisting the cardiology clinician and RVT so that they can complete their daily tasks in a more timely and efficient manner. In conjunction with patient care this role is also responsible for the routine cleaning and husbandry of the hospital ensuring that proper infectious disease protocols are followed. This position calls for a person with at least one-year of experience with animal care and handling in a veterinary setting. The Cardiology PCA will act as an advanced PCA in that they will be trained to start cardiology appointments, perform discharges and client communications, and take patient vitals. The right candidate will show interest in wanting to grow as a veterinary professional as this position will require being able to take on more advanced responsibility with time.   • Assist in cleaning the hospital including but not limited to laundry, sweeping & mopping floors, taking out the trash and recycling, cleaning treatment areas, and cages, counter tops and bathrooms
  • Set up for and assist with routine medical procedures including fine needle aspirates, thoracocentesis, and abdominocentesis, endoscopic procedures, and echocardiograms
  • Properly restrain patients for basic medical procedures and physical exams including echocardiograms and Holter Monitor placement
  • Complete service’s daily and weekly cleaning task lists
  • Participate in basic client communications/patient call backs; be able to obtain an accurate, concise update on a patient and relay information/instructions from doctor to owners
  • Ensure adequate stocking of supplies and maintain cleanliness in the designated specialty exam rooms and special procedures rooms
  • Collect free catch urine and fecal samples
  • Assist in positioning and acquisition of patient radiographs
  • Process in-house and reference lab samples
  • Fill in-house prescriptions, fax prescription authorizations, and call in basic prescriptions to outside pharmacies
  • Perform routine patient care for cardiology and the other specialty services as directed by clinician or technicians including feeding, walking, providing water and clean bedding
  • Proactively assist team members when needed throughout the hospital daily
  • Perform patient aftercare procedures
  • Use practice software appropriately per hospital procedures/policy
  • Add items to the want list as supplies are needed

Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a veterinary healthcare environment that performs in- and out-patient procedures as well as provides hospitalization care for small companion animals. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, as well as specialized veterinary medical equipment including anesthesia machines, radiology machines, ultrasound, oxygen therapy units, and IV fluid pumps. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and stooping all day. This is a full-time position in a healthcare facility which is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Full-time availability Monday-Friday is preferred. Holidays and work during inclement weather will be required. Preferred Education and Experience
  • 1 year of experience in the veterinary field required
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent required
  • Student enrolled in an AVMA- accredited Veterinary Technology program preferred
