Our team is looking for an experienced Cancer Registry Assistant to join our Tumor Registry department at St. Joseph Hospital of Orange. This is an on call/per diem position providing 8-hour shift coverage for the day shift.

Job Summary:

Works in the Cancer Registry and report to the Manager of the Cancer Registry. Assistant is responsible for conducting follow up on all patients in the current database from the current reference date. The assistant prepares for quality review for Cancer Committee presentation and physician review for data quality review. Completes AJCC staging reviews. Prepares reports for Cancer Center Administration regarding disease status as an additional component of the follow-up process.

Essential Functions:

  • Obtain patient information from Meditech medical record including visit, contacts, demographics, and providers to update follow up.
  • Organizes and maintains a data system in CNExT to expedite letters to physicians and patients regarding treatment, current disease status and demographic information.
  • Updates patient information in CNExT utilizing physician/patient letters and phone communication.
  • Demonstrates the ability to access hospital patient discharge summary to update last patient contact in CNExT.
  • Enters Radiation and Chemotherapy treatment into CNExT using radiation treatment reports.
  • Prepares the Cancer Committee quality review of abstract packets.
  • Prepares follow up patient reports on a weekly and as needed basis, including projected numbers and percentages.
  • Follow up instruction and assistance to employees and volunteers assigned temporarily to the Cancer Registry Department.
  • Complete reports as requested regarding disease status from the follow-up data.

  • Ability to type 50 wpm.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Flexibility to adapt to new and changing situations.
  • Preferred: Spanish speaking.

Position Requirements:

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience: Cancer Registry experience needed.
