Overview:

Fairview Health Services - Southdale Cancer Clinic, located in Edina, MN is a department of University of Minnesota Medical Center. We are looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) to support our busy Oncology/Hematology Clinic with cancer care support services. We are the largest cancer care provider in the central metro region. This position is a combination clinic and care coordination role.

  • This is a 1.0 FTE (80 hours per two week pay period), 8 hour shifts

  • M-F, Day shifts starting between 700-900 am, occasional limited weekend (S/S) not any more than e/o

Responsibilities/Job Description: Nursing duties include while working with patients being seen for a CLINIC visit and through telephone /electronic communications, along with rooming, completing education and teaching with patients/families;

  • Recognizes and incorporates ethical principles within the delivery of care.
  • Rooming and educating patients/families
  • Uses EMR to update the medical records so must be comfortable using computers
  • Displays critical thinking skills while managing and accessing patients with acute and chronic pain by using consistent pain tool.
  • Collaborates with patient/family and health care team to validate outcomes and develop and execute a plan of care which include; follow up and consultant appointments, patient education, complex procedures and lab draws.
  • Assesses and delivers health care through telephone encounters with patients and families, using the nursing process framework and specialty knowledge.
  • Directs and delegates duties as appropriate.
  • Telephone triage/documents triage advice/recommendations in the medical record and makes referrals while working as liaison between patients and providers.
  • Manages orders including accurate transcription of faxed orders, therapy and treatment plans.
Qualifications: Minimum Experience:
2 -3 years of RN Oncology experience. 2 -3 years of RN experience in chemotherapy administration including competency managing central lines, picc, ports, peripheral IV's. Working knowledge of and ability to provide patient teaching on antibiotics, chemotherapy, monoclonal antibodies, blood products and associated medications. Experience working in an ambulatory care setting Prior experience working with adult population /patients.
Minimum Licensure/certification/registration:

Current Oncology Certified Nurse Certification or ability to obtain OCN certification within 1-2 years of date of hire based on FTE appointment
Ability to provide written validation of current basic life support competency for healthcare providers BLS Certification - Red Cross or American Heart Association
Minimum Education:

Current MN RN licensure or by start date
Prefered:

BSN or willingness to obtain in near future ONS/ONCC chemotherapy biotherapy certification
