The Campus Safety Officer provides personnel, equipment, and real property security for
faculty, staff, students, and visitors at all SLCC properties and locations. Protects them
from vandalism, theft, destruction, and other adverse effects.
Ensures all buildings, offices, and sensitive areas are locked.
Ability to handle difficult situations when they arise.
Ability to communicate with local authorities to report any suspicious activity on SLCC
properties.
Works with Law Enforcement to protect against theft, vandalism, destruction, or unsafe
conditions on all SLCC campus areas.
This function/position has been designated as “essential”, which means that when the
College is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be
required to remain at their work location or report to work to protect, recover, and
continue operations at the College.
This position requires at various times to walk and stand for long periods of time.
This is an unarmed position. Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Maintains campus security that may include patrolling area, responding to panic and fire alarms, observing offenders, and enforcing laws.
  • Maintains security of buildings, facilities, equipment, etc., and protects them from vandalism, theft, destruction, and other adverse effects.
  • Observes physical hazards or potential hazards, takins the appropriate steps to report items to the various divisions.
  • Provides being the focal point to Facilities for snow removal or other adverse conditions.
  • Takes reports, which include reports on crimes, injuries, campus rules, and regulations.
  • Responds to non-police calls, such as unlocking doors for instructors, and assisting with problems.
  • Provides escort services for visitors, students, staff, and faculty as necessary.
  • Provides other services such as lockout services and jump starts.
  • Maintains data and prepares reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued Preferred Qualifications Experience in a security setting preferred. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
One (1) year paid, full-time, work experience.
Successfully pass a background check.
Obtain and maintain a Utah driver’s license.
Ability to work swing shifts, days, weekends, and holidays.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with all SLCC faculty, staff, students, and visitors.

Skilled in providing protection services to individuals on campus.

Contribute to discussions on public safety-related programs, procedures, and policies.

Observe, inform, and serve as a witness for law enforcement officers investigating a crime.

Observe, locate, identify, and report any hazardous conditions on campus.

Make appropriate decisions in stressful situations.

Work without supervision.

Strong and effective interpersonal communication skills, flexible, and customer service oriented.

Ability to work in various environments such as cold weather, snow, rain, or heat.

Operate computer equipment and basic software packages.

Skilled in radio and cellular phone communications to contact the appropriate agencies.

A general knowledge of Federal, State, local laws, and college policies and procedures.

Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, and ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.

Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
