Purpose of the Position
This position will be responsible for multiple duties, but not subjected to. You are a key part of providing excellent service to all guests. A Food Runner’s priority is to run (bring out) food, sides, and beverages to tables, but also assist in fulfilling any guest requests. The Food Runner in charge of the line are known as Expediters (Expos) and are responsible for expediting the process of getting the food from the kitchen to the guest. There is more to Food Running than just a robot who brings orders to the correct tables—Food Runners must be thoughtful, detail-oriented, efficient and accurate. Food Runners must always ask if there is anything else they can bring to the table when dropping off food items, never “drop and go” without pausing for a moment. Food Runners are the “utility player” of the restaurant team and will often assist both servers, bussers, and kitchen team as needed. Food Runners and Expediters are the bridge between the service team and the kitchen team.
Bussers are key to a smooth restaurant operation and work “behind the scenes” to facilitate exemplary service. A Busser’s priority is quick table turns (time each table is “dirty” between parties) and restaurant cleanliness. Maintaining tables and restaurant appearance are the key intangibles to a great restaurant experience above just “great service”. Bussers ensure the complete experience is perfect for each guest from a sparkling clean front entrance to a clean table with clean silverware to a fully stocked and spotless restroom. Bussers also support servers, food runners, bar tenders, and hosts as needed.
This is a non-exempt position that reports directly to the Restaurant Manager(s) and indirectly to others in management or supervisor roles on duty.
