Correctional Industries (CI) within the Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking 2 highly motivated and qualified individuals as Business Solutions Manger - Industries Manager 3s. This position is located at Correctional Industries Headquarters in Tumwater, Washington.
This position is exempt from Washington State Civil Service rules .

Duties Correctional Industries is committed to maintain and expand incarcerated worker training programs, which develop marketable skills, instill and promote positive work ethics and reduce the tax burden of corrections. This position supports that objective by providing leadership and project management of business solutions to meet the technical needs of the business, manufacturing and service operations primarily on the west side of the state, with the ability to manage projects statewide as-needed.
Other duties may include but are not limited to:
Accountability
- This position is responsible for identifying business requirements, assisting in developing and executing strategic plans, and interacting with management to produce solutions for CI’s emerging business needs. This will be accomplished by using Lean, change management and process improvement techniques to provide project management and continuous improvement support.
- This position provides primary front-end support and training for the current statewide Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. This position will have the responsibility of translating technological requirements into business terms and serve as a liaison between Correctional Industries and DOC IT as it pertains to the ERP and other Correctional Industries’ software applications.
- This position will implement, manage and standardize processes and procedures within software applications and business functions related to the statewide ERP. This will be done by implementing technical solutions, training staff and incarcerated workers, facilitating technical work sessions, monitoring effectiveness of technological solutions, and improving operational workflow within business software applications.
- This position is the primary SharePoint support for Correctional Industries and provides project management and leadership to develop, implement, and manage standards for CI SharePoint. This position updates, establishes, and maintains proper security and user permissions, groups, and roles. This position works with all divisions and sites statewide to establish SharePoint structure that enhances collaboration, increases efficiency, and support Correctional Industries divisions.
- The potential impact of error if the duties of the position aren’t performed could result in business and/or manufacturing software failure, business/operational staff not having sufficient training to operate within their business environment, and ultimately impacting customer orders not being received, produced or shipped in a timely manner.
Financial Dimensions - Position will develop and implement business solutions to support Correctional Industries strategic plan to produce tangible/intangible savings, i.e. elimination of redundant process steps, placing operations in flow to reduce wasted motion
Decision Making and Policy Impact - Position has the full authority to develop, implement and control operating procedures/policies as they relate to providing technical solutions to meet business needs.
- Position has the full authority to resolve day-to-day ERP use issues in the production/business/service units. Server or SQL errors are directed to the DOC IT Department.
- Position has the full authority to design the approach and lead the analysis and gathering of business needs and information to help solve business problems, for large scale systems-level implementations and solutions by working with all roles in the software development cycle. Implements technical standards in order to meet the business needs of the enterprise. An example of a technological standard would be to standardize part numbers, process flow, forms, user fields within a given software program, or implement standardized software statewide.
- Risks/consequences of decisions for which this position has full authority include: loss/delay of business functions, production error/delays, order delays/inaccuracies, and ultimately the potential for loss of business revenue.
- Purchase of equipment, supplies, or materials exceeding $1,500 are brought to the immediate supervisor before routing to the appropriate Assistant Director for approval.
Qualifications Required:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two (2) or more years of information technology experience working within a business/service/manufacturing software program designed to meet business needs.
- Must have a working knowledge of project and time management.
- Strong interpersonal communication, collaboration and analytic skills
- Ability to be decisiveness and make timely decisions without sacrificing quality- even under ambiguous circumstances or when data is limited.
Desired: - Bachelors Degree from a recognized accredited college and/or university whose accreditations are recognized by U.S. Department of Education (USDE) or the council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in Business, Public Administration or closely related field.
- Two (2) years of information technology experience working within an Enterprise Resource Planning software application.
- Two (2) years experience maintaining/installing computer software applications.
Conditions of Employment
- This position is exempt from Washington’s civil service rules. Exempt employment is considered “at will,” and there are no contractual employment rights. Exempt employees serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
- Complete a felony disclosure form prior to employment and submit to a criminal background check.
- Successfully complete, within mandated timeframes, employee orientation and all other mandatory annual, in-service, and other required training.
- Provide physical residential address and home telephone number to the Department of Corrections.
- Become familiar and comply with all Department policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Submit to drug testing in accordance with agency policy.

Telework Details
This position may be allocated for telework. Work may be performed from your home or another offsite location within the state of Washington using a reliable internet or cellular hotspot service at that time. Employees are expected to perform assigned duties in a safe manner, to take proper care all state-issued equipment, and maintain confidentiality of all information in possession while working offsite. Employees will be required to commute to a Department of Corrections facility or field office as business requires, to potentially include components of the onboarding process. Some offices will have a “drop in” area available, however, a dedicated workspace within a DOC facility will not be provided.
