SummaryResponsible for profitably adding new commercial and small industrial customers and expanding gas utilization of existing customers while preventing load losses to competitive energies. Provides comprehensive coverage of assigned sales territory; keeping abreast of new construction projects and all other activities related to gas sales to commercial and small industrial customers.
Duties and Responsibilities- Attract new multi-unit housing, commercial and small industrial customers by developing short and long-term departmental strategic goals, building key customer relationships with developers, business owners, architects, engineers and real estate brokers, identifying business opportunities and maintaining an extensive knowledge of current market conditions
- Handle a large sized/high volume territory and is responsible for medium to large sized key accounts to ensure customer satisfaction
- Identify market influencers (contractors, developers, business owners, architects, engineers & others) and successfully position the Company to earn business by communicating a value proposition and assisting with the selection of gas equipment, preparation of first cost, operating cost and life cycle cost analyses for various fuel and equipment types as necessary for customer presentations
- Act as a critical point of contact with customers between internal departments, negotiate terms of contracts with customer and assist in scheduling activities when necessary.
- Participates in planning meetings with other business development personnel for the purpose of identifying new opportunities, coordinating sales efforts, identifying equipment options and communicating energy solutions to developers.
- Profitably convert commercial customers to natural gas from alternative fuels through prospecting, performing energy studies and giving presentations.
- Possess a strong knowledge of the natural gas market and develop skills centered on specialized technologies as assigned by the department manager.
- Utilize internal lead generation systems, other departments and all tools necessary to identify opportunities to streamline projects/opportunities.
- Understands and successfully communicates natural gas benefits, rebates and processes to customers including conducting internal and external educational training as needed.
- Works cross-functionally with other departments to develop marketing materials promoting natural gas equipment for multi-unit housing and commercial use.
- Assist in special projects as assigned and communicate project status and results to staff and management

Essential Characteristics and CompetenciesSupervisory ResponsibilitiesN/A
Required Education (certifications, licenses)- Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Engineering related or equivalent work experience
- Salesforce experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license required
Required knowledge, skill and abilities- Mimimum of three years of sales or equivalent experience directly interfacing wtih customers required. Five plus years preferred.
- Knowledge of the gas industry rates and tariffs as well as bill calculation, computation of gas consumption & revenue
- Familiar with residential & commercial construction schedules
- Knowledge of natural gas installation codes and standards
- Strong understanding of various types of heating and water heating equipment for multi-housing and commercial facilities & a general understanding of various meter types
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents and architecture plans
Physical demands, environment and schedule- Performed remotely in the field at C&I facilities, in the company vehicle, on construction sites and sometimes in a shared office environment
- Typically, 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday
- Minimal overtime/travel required
