NIBR Oncology strives to reimagine medicines for cancer patients through a combination of treatment approaches including targeted therapies, immunotherapies, CAR-T, and radioligand therapy. Novartis Oncology Biotherapeutics Group is dedicated to discovering next generation biologics, with particular focus on novel formats of multi-specific immune-cell engaging antibodies and other novel approaches to leverage host immune system against cancer.

We’re seeking for a BS/MS senior scientist who is highly motivated, creative, collaborative and results-oriented for Novartis Oncology Biotherapeutics group in Cambridge, MA. In this role, you will have the opportunities to contribute to innovative biotherapeutic drug discovery for cancer by independently screening and in-depth characterizing of drug candidates with advanced in-vitro assays. The successful candidate will become a critical contributor in a dynamic and multidisciplinary group, with opportunities to interact with other functional groups, to understand the process of preclinical discovery of oncology drugs, and finally to transform the lives of cancer patients.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY:

• Perform in vitro assay to screen potent immune cell engaging antibody or biologics

• Use automation and high-throughput system to support large scale drug screening

• Carry out in vitro experiments to in-depth characterize drug candidates to support regulatory filing for first-in-human clinical trials.

• Explore the biology of emerging drug targets or exciting novel formats of biologics

• Design and execute the experiments with the inputs from the manager; troubleshoot technical issues; analyze and interpret the data; formulate hypotheses and design experiments.

• Document the results in a detailed manner in laboratory journal and in internal databases.

• Present research updates and participate constructively in working project teams and at laboratory group meetings.

Minimum requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• BS with at least 4 years, or MS with at least 2 years of prior experience in academia or industry in cancer immunology, cancer biology or antibody therapeutics.
• Basic knowledge of immuno-oncology and/or immunology.
• Extensive hands-on expertise in cell culture, in vitro cell assay (especially T cell assays), transient/stable cell line generation and ELISA/MSD
• Experience with functional immune cell assay techniques, including proliferation assay, cytokine profiling, cytotoxicity assays and immune cell isolation.
• Capable of documenting experiments, analyzing and interpreting data, as well as presenting results within a multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Good technical skills and lab citizenship. A collaborative teammate mind-set is essential.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Prior experience with antibodies or biologics drug discovery is highly desired.
• Phenotypic characterization of primary human and mouse immune cell subsets as well as advanced flow cytometry skills for performing multicolor immuno-phenotyping on in vitro and ex vivo samples is a plus.
• Experience with high-throughput instruments is preferred.
