JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, installs, tests, repairs, calibrates and maintains medical equipment in healthcare and other facilities supported by Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium. The following duties are intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities and ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. Level I employees perform work under close supervision, may only perform simple or routine aspects or the position, and generally require a good deal of instruction and/or training. Level III employees perform high level, complex, and responsible tasks within this position, train lower level employees, and generally work with minimum supervision and follow-up from their supervisor. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES All Installs, tests, repairs, calibrates and maintains medical equipment. Investigates equipment failures; performs troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose problems; identifies, locates, resolves, and repairs equipment and devices. Investigates intermittent problems; maintains accurate service records; documents and maintains accurate records of all inspections, repairs, adjustments, etc. performed on all equipment; updates database of equipment identification, location, status, reliability, and service documentation. Participates in both internal and external educational programs through professional associations, technical training courses, and seminars to develop and maintain the required current technical aptitude. Interacts with manufacturer’s representatives to obtain the necessary technical product information. Requests and/or orders necessary repair and spare parts according to established procedures and contract relationships. Provides operational and technical advice on equipment to medical and clinical staff when needed. Interacts with clinical staff on a regular basis to insure needs are being met. Lifts, carries and/or pushes/pulls various items (bags, boxes, carts, etc.) while utilizing proper technique. Complies with all ANTHC safety policies and procedures, Federal Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations, and departmental policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. May provide similar services across the Region. The incumbent is responsible for adhering to established Standards of Courtesy and/or Service Standards Biomedical Imaging Equipment Technician I Analyzes, troubleshoots and repairs diagnostic or therapeutic imaging equipment and systems utilizing established electronic tests and measurement equipment and techniques. Installs or assists in the installation of new imaging equipment, modifications, tubes, transformers, etc. Performs scheduled maintenance, calibrations and/or modifications on imaging equipment and systems, in accordance with department procedures, manufacturers' recommendations, physicist's specifications and/or other applicable codes and standards. Provides operational and technical advice on Imaging equipment to medical and clinical staff. Interacts with clinical staff on a regular basis to insure needs are being met. Assists in the training of radiology staff on the safe and proper use of radiology equipment. Mentors Biomedical Equipment Tech’s to help them grow in ability, responsibility, and experience. Assists in grooming Biomedical Equipment Tech’s to provide first call on Imaging equipment. Must be familiar with digital imaging technology, and networking technology. May assist radiology personnel in the selection process for new equipment purchases and installations, may assist with service contract negotiations. This may include site visits and/or meetings with equipment manufacturers. Makes recommendations for capital equipment replacements to Supervisor. May be required to perform outlined duties and share expertise across sites as needed. Biomedical Imaging Equipment Technician II Analyzes, troubleshoots and repairs highly complex diagnostic and therapeutic imaging equipment and systems utilizing established electronic test and measurement equipment and techniques. Installs, calibrates and tests highly complex new imaging equipment and/or systems. Performs scheduled preventative maintenance on highly complex imaging equipment in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations, applicable codes, standards and department policy. Conducts scheduled and unscheduled electrical and functional safety inspections on highly complex imaging equipment. Trains medical and clinical staff on the safe and proper use of highly complex imaging equipment and systems. Provides operational and technical advice on highly complex equipment to medical and clinical staff. Provides technical support and assistance to imaging staff in their use of highly complex diagnostic and therapeutic Imaging devices. Interacts with clinical staff on a regular basis to insure needs are being met. Mentors Biomedical Imaging Technician I’s to help them grow in ability, responsibility, and experience. Assists in grooming Biomedical Equipment Technicians to provide first call on imaging equipment. Must be familiar with digital imaging technology, and networking technology. Make recommendations for capital equipment. Orders necessary repair and spare parts. Assists in research projects and/or new Imaging equipment evaluations. Modifies highly complex existing Imaging devices and systems to meet the special needs of the user in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations. Assists in the development of policies and procedures related to Imaging equipment maintenance and use. Assists with the training of technicians and quality control checks on the equipment repaired. May be required to perform outlined duties and share expertise across sites as needed. All Biomedical Imaging Equipment Technician I Biomedical Imaging Equipment Technician II Biomedical Imaging Equipment Technician II Associate Degree or it's equivalent in electronics, biomedical strongly preferred or it's equivalent in Imaging Service training. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for education. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION Biomedical Imaging Equipment Technician II Non-Supervisory - Five (5) years of progressively responsible hospital based or manufacturer’s field service experience in the capacity as a Bio-medical Imaging Technician required. An equivalent combination of relevant education and/or training may be substituted for experience. PREFERRED CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION Biomedical Imaging Equipment Technician I, II ICC, CBET, CRES strongly preferred ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS WORKING CONDITIONS The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
