SUMMARY OF POSITION:Under the direction of the Chief Engagement Officer our Bi-Lingual Family Support Coordinator will provide direct and indirect services to English Language Learners (ELL), facilitates communication among school, home, and community providers. Provide interpretation services for ELL Student and their families to school staff and serve as the primary coordinator of services for ELL students and families, design and implement programs that promote social and emotional health, and respond to day-to-day student issues and unanticipated crises
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES- Assists students to improve their academic, personal, and social functioning.
- Secure services for social skills, anger management, stress reduction or other similar instruction to students who are experiencing social/emotional/behavioral problems that interfere with their learning or the ability of others to learn.
- Facilitate short-term individual and group counseling to students who are experiencing social/emotional/behavioral problems that interfere with their learning or the ability of others to learn.
- Participates in IEP meetings and consults regarding the compilation of documentation for student record.
- Secure all required documentation as required by law or prescribed by the SSD which may include IEP/504 documents, session notes and formal recommendations, or structured observations
- Provides information to families and assists them in accessing long-term or intensive counseling services, as needed.
- Works collaboratively with special education coordinating social skills, anger management, stress reduction or other similar instruction as is appropriate to addressing students’ special education needs.
- Provides information and assistance to families to help them understand their child’s educational disability and equip them with the tools necessary to support their child’s educational and/or behavioral progress. Provides parent training and support as needed.
- Provides information to parents regarding the referral/assessment process, special education services available within the district, and their rights relative to special education.
- Conducts social/developmental assessments of students referred for special education, assists in determining eligibility for special education.
- Acts as a liaison between the home, school, and community providers to access, mobilize and coordinate services.
- Communicates with staff, administration and parents concerning students’ social, emotional, and behavioral progress.
- Confers with students individually, within the classroom setting or in group
- Identify strategies to support a parent when a student’s living situation (home, school, community) negatively impacts the student’s attendance and adjustment to school.
- Collaborate with classroom teams and school staff to build positive classroom and school community.
- Provide in-service education to school personnel on a variety of topics including identifying child abuse/neglect, social, emotional, and behavioral development, behavioral intervention strategies, the impact of poverty on young children, etc.
- Provide crisis intervention for students and families as well as debriefing for school staff.
- Provides information to students and parents about services available within the community. Makes referrals to community providers, as appropriate.
- Consults and collaborates with social services, mental health, and other community providers
- Maintains an accurate record of student, parent, and other contacts within out SISK-12.
- Coordinates home, school, and community resources in addressing the crisis.
- Coordinates follow-up services as needed.
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:- Bilingual Spanish - must native-level fluency in Spanish and English (Native speakers strongly encouraged)
- Bachelor’s degree in education (encouraged).
- Two or more years’ experience in a school public/private school setting.
- Working knowledge of personal computers and applicable software.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, both internal and external to the department.
- Ability to discern the sensitivity of internal/external communications in a large public organization and an awareness of the elements of public relations.
- You are comfortable with in-person work at a school (with COVID safety precautions, including temperature checks, masks, desk shields, and daily disinfection).
