Purpose of the Position
The Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for assisting with patient care in the behavioral health acute care programs. BHT’s will have a primary program in the acute care department, while also assisting in the other acute care programs as needed. The acute care department consists of the adult and youth behavioral health hospitals, adult and youth crisis stabilization units, and alcohol/opiate detoxification beds.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required:
Current Certified Nursing Assistant certification from the Wisconsin Nurse Aides Registry
Current BLS (CPR) Certification
Less than one year of relevant experience
Driving Requirements:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist with group interactions and set up/oversee planned program activities.
Assist with new patients admitted to the department, in the Crisis Center and on the unit, including body checks, orientation to the unit and compilation of a patient belonging list.
Participate in de-escalation measures and physical restraint/restraint chair/seclusion room implementation and monitoring for clients experiencing symptoms/behaviors that are a harm to self or others, on primary unit and throughout the campus when a Dr. Green behavioral health emergency code is initiated.
Scheduling, clerical duties, other duties as assigned.
Provide patient care, monitor patient activities, and provide patient support as assigned under the direction of the Registered Nurse and/or Licensed Practical Nurse, to include 1 on 1 and line-of-sight monitoring as needed.
Assist in the observation, reporting, and documentation of various patient behaviors.
Assists patients as needed with personal cares, meals, laundry or other activities of daily living.
Ensure continuity of care through the following of the patient’s established treatment program, participating in patient interviews as requested by the psychiatrist, and reporting any mental and/or physical health issues/observations to the appropriate staff/providers.
Assist the multidisciplinary team members as necessary - Physician’s Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, psychiatrist or resident, RN/LPN, social worker, therapist, AODA counselor, psychologist, etc.as requested.
Maintain regular and predictable on-site attendance.
