Behavior Specialist /SHS (Internal Only) PSE Salary Schedule The Sultan School District is one of the larger geographical school districts in the Puget Sound area, consisting of approximately 325 square miles. Sultan School District has approximately 2,000 students enrolled K-12. Students are currently served by two elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and an alternative high school; and the Sno-Isle Skills Center, a cooperative vocational technical school. Our Community: Located northeast of Seattle (seven miles east of Monroe) or about 20 minutes from the Woodinville area, Sultan is surrounded by a beautiful environmental setting. Our “backyard” is the scenic Skykomish River and Cascade Mountains. Sultan School District includes the community of Sultan, Startup, and Gold Bar. Students from Index attend Sultan High School. Application Procedure: Interested applicants should apply through our web-based application program and upload the required supporting documents at https://sultan.cloud.talentedk12.com/hire/index.aspx Interested applicants must complete the application and attach the following documents: The Behavior Specialist Paraeducator assists in the implementation of all aspects of the building’s behavior intervention support program, including, but not limited to, the delivery of researched based intervention strategies to individual students as well as small groups of students, and progress monitoring of those students. Essential Functions: POSITION MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ability to give and follow directions. Mental Demands: Experience frequent interruption Required to deal with a wide range of student behaviors and academic abilities or with a wide range of physical or emotional disabilities Required to calm distraught, angry or hostile students Ability to be consistent, and respectful at all times when working with students Ability to be consistent, calm and positive during all student interaction, which may include during times of verbal and physical escalations Ability to work with students in a warm and confident manner Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner Ability to follow written and oral directions Knowledge of basic academic subjects areas such as spelling, writing, reading and math Basic knowledge of applied behavior analysis including how antecedents and consequences affect student behavior. Knowledge of child development concepts, developmentally appropriate curriculum and individualized learning processes for children, indicators of child abuse and neglect and factors affecting low income families Knowledge and course verification of student de-escalation and safe methods of physical interventions during crisis (Eg Right response) Skills in general classroom procedures Physical Demands: May be exposed to visual display terminal. Exposed to student noise levels. Occasional to frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and seeing. Must be able to see details at close range. May be required to be on feet for extended periods of time or sit for extended periods of time. May be required to use Right Response escorts and restraints in crisis events Ability to work with multiple behaviorally escalated students at one time EDUCATION, LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, FORMAL TRAINING: High school graduation or equivalent and experience working with school-aged students. Pass Paraeducator Praxis test or have 72 quarter credits at 100-level or above. Must have current First Aid / CPR Certification Immigration Reform and Control Act Requirement: The recommended applicant, if not a current employee, will be required to complete an INS I-9 form and must provide proof of employment eligibility. Disclosure Statement and Background Check Pursuant to Chapter 43.43, Washington Laws of 1990, the recommended applicant will be required to complete a disclosure form indicating whether he/she has been convicted of crimes against persons listed in the law. In addition, a background check, based on fingerprints, will be requested from the Washington State Patrol. of employment.
