The Avionics Technician performs inspection, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, removal and replacement of aircraft instrument and avionics components and systems using various hand tools and test equipment to meet manufacturer's specifications, FAR's, industry standards, and Repair Station General Operating Manual (RSGOM) in a safe and organized work area. In addition, this position may perform as Qualified Inspector (QI); completes accurate and timely documentation; and communicates and interacts with customers regarding aircraft technical issues.

Essential Job Functions

1. Troubleshoots, repairs, test, removes and replaces avionics and instrument wiring and systems installed in various airframes using hand tools, test equipment, technical documents, and technical reference materials. Orders necessary parts to complete the job. Inspects components and aircraft systems as a QI as needed.

2. Enters description of work completed on the work order and properly documents removal and installation of aircraft parts and components according to approved data and Duncan Aviation approved procedures.

3. Assists bench technicians in the resolution of discrepancies in avionics and instrument components and systems removed from aircraft. Provides OJT to less experienced technicians to ensure technician development and accurate work.

4. Accompanies flight crews to perform in-flight troubleshooting and adjustments and performs preflight evaluations of avionics and instrument systems.

5. Communicates and interacts professionally with the internal and external customers to educate and answers questions regarding the technical functions of the customer's aircraft, within area of expertise.

6. Maintains and cleans line maintenance test equipment and work area as required. Operates ground support equipment as necessary.

7. Attends factory and Company technical classes and participates in OJT to increase technical skills and proficiency. Maintains technical training log.

8. Be available to provide a continuation of service and be a point of contact for internal or external customers before or after scheduled hours of work.

9. Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Job Specific Requirements

  • Licenses/Certificates: Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record; eligibility for Repairman's Certificate; QI designation
  • Attendance: Regularly scheduled attendance required; on-call and occasional multiple night travel rotation
  • Physical: Routinely up to 50 lbs., occasionally up to 100 lbs.; tolerates working in confined spaces and heights above four feet; reads small print and identifies colors; hears sounds associated with mechanical deficiencies; repetitive motion; works with moving parts and vibration; tolerates products and materials associated with component maintenance; tolerates standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing and sitting
  • Environmental: Tolerates working in extreme temperatures and noisy environments
  • Work Schedule: Must be available to work multiple shifts

Education and Experience

Avionics Technician I:

  • Associates degree in avionics, electronics, airframe/engine maintenance or related field or equivalent required
  • Minimum one year avionics, electronics, airframe maintenance or related experience preferred

Avionics Technician II:

  • Associates degree in avionics, electronics, airframe/engine maintenance or related field or equivalent required
  • Minimum two years avionics, electronics, airframe maintenance or related experience required

Avionics Technician III:

  • Associates degree in avionics, electronics, airframe/engine maintenance or related field or equivalent required
  • Minimum five years avionics, electronics, airframe maintenance or related experience required
