A/V Technician of Entertainment Productions (Full-time) Details

Under direct supervision of the Technical Manager of Entertainment Productions, the A/V Technician of Entertainment Productions is responsible for assisting with planning, coordinating and executing maintenance and construction of all audio/visual projects in the Zoo, creating sound files and playlists, assisting with general entertainment technical needs, and contributing to creative for consumer and private events.

Daily Operations Functions

  • Conducts all activities in alignment with AZA standards and guidelines, all relevant laws and regulations, safety standards, and standards that ensure animal welfare.
  • Assists the Director of Entertainment Productions and the Technical Manager of Entertainment Productions in outlining the scope of projects and setting deadlines. Inspects and monitors all facilities and equipment for public safety, maintenance, repair and or replacement needs.
  • Works in the field, executing work orders, repairs and projects for Entertainment Productions and general maintenance as assigned by Manager and/or Director.
  • Focuses efforts directly on production for consumer and private events, only deviating from that during emergency/critical issues, or when specifically filling in as maintenance point of contact.
  • Assist with maintenance of all facilities, animal enclosures/exhibits, and all related general maintenance throughout the Zoo, under direction of Manager and/or Director.
  • Assist with development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and equipment specific Preventative Maintenance programs for all general maintenance.
  • Maintains an inventory of tools, equipment and supplies specific to consumer events and general Zoo A/V Gear.
  • Plans, schedules, and prioritizes production of A/V content and material, as well as installation.
  • Coordinates with vendors for specification of parts and material purchases, and contractors for service work, the result being purchase/contract recommendations to the Director.
  • Continuously seeks cost reduction strategies and tracks energy usage.
  • Maintenance of park-wide Public Address System.

Lead Functions

  • Responsible for mentoring, training, safety, development, performance management, and general human resource needs of subordinates.
  • Assists with preparation and prioritization of daily work assignments.
  • Assists with oversight of department during Department Management absences.
  • Assists in a responsible role with special events coverage for department.

What are we looking for?

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Strongly prefer 3-4 years of experience as an A/V tech in a theme park or entertainment setting.
  • Strongly prefer a background in sound design and sound technology.
  • Mechanical background and abilities required.
  • Must have demonstrated knowledge of audio and visual equipment maintenance, carpentry, painting, electrical, and general maintenance on facilities.
  • Motivated self-starter.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Basic electrical skills and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Must be able to utilize a Work Management Software, issuing work orders and preventative maintenances
  • Deal courteously and tactfully with employees, peers, superiors and the general public.
  • Working knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Working knowledge of current A/V trends, tools, and equipment.
  • Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.
  • Use of computer and basic programs.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to respond to nighttime and weekend calls and be a primary after hours point of contact for special event and consumer event issues.
  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions typical to west central Florida (i.e., heat, rain, or cold).
  • Ability to safely operate heavy equipment and follow department safety programs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have ability to navigate paved as well as rough construction sites.
  • Ability to use radio, telephone, and computer to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Must be willing and able to work varied and long shifts including holidays and weekends.
  • Must be able to plan for, work, and staff specials events and exhibits as well as be available for unexpected shifts.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, standing, and walking.
  • Must be able to comfortably climb amusement ride catwalks up to a height of 30 feet.
