The primary purpose of the Automation Specialist position is to maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize high-speed food processing equipment, high-speed packaging equipment, AGV units, and automated rail systems.
Essential Duties:
- Maintain, troubleshoot, optimize, install, upgrade, calibrate and repair electronic, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic equipment and components.
- Equipment included but is not limited to conveyors, motors, meters, instrumentation, high-speed slicing/packaging equipment, control panels, PLC/PAC control systems, variable frequency drives, high-speed vision systems, robotics, scales, production printers, and computers.
- Fabricates, installs, adjusts, calibrates, repairs, replaces parts, dismantles, and rebuilds electrical equipment/instruments to correct problems per schematics and work instructions. Works with both AC and DC electrical systems with voltages at or near 10, 12, 24 110, 220, 480 volts and 4 -20 mA and 0 – 10 VDC control signals and various communication protocols.
- This position requires the candidate to be able to read and understand electrical schematics, and technical manuals to perform job duties.
- Must be able to use electrical diagnostic test equipment, primarily digital multimeters, and computers with diagnostic and calibration software.
- Utilizes power industrial equipment for forklifts and scissors lifts. Must be safety conscious, identifies safety hazards, utilizes mandatory PPE, demonstrates Electrical Arc Flash awareness, and have a strong working knowledge of appropriate safety practices and company guidelines and directives.
- Must understand, follow, and demonstrate compliance with all safety rules and understand working safely is a condition of employment. Assist in assuring HACCP, SOPs, work instructions, and Food Safety Quality requirements are following all company, state, and federal regulations, and guidelines.
- Must be able to complete accurate work logs and appropriate documentation and use reporting system as required for proper documentation for installation, maintenance, repair, replacement, modification, troubleshooting, diagnosing, and optimization to drive the preventative and predictive maintenance programs. This position will require working with all levels of the maintenance, production, and management personnel for/during optimization, troubleshooting, modification, installation, and repair of plant equipment and processes.
- Possess the ability to work without direct supervision to perform all other tasks/duties as assigned or required by the maintenance management team
- This position may require working rotating shifts and/or fixed shifts extended hours on short notice, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed. Able to work in cold and hot environments, at heights greater than 10 feet, lift over 50 lbs., crouch, crawl, and kneel.
- Work with maintenance planner for scheduled downtime activities
- Document all work performed, scheduled, and inventory through the company’s CMMS system
- Must be available and flexible to work all shifts as business needs require.
- Ensure customer satisfaction and operational excellence.
- Be able to participate in operation meetings to build relationships.
- Routine communication and coordination with other corporate departments.
- Complete all applicable documentation and recordkeeping.
- Perform JSAs with team members
- Perform all work in compliance with company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
Machines, Tools, Special Equipment:
Automation and PLC Control systems, Pneumatic, electrical, and hand tools, Multi-meter, O2 sensors, respirators, forklift, man-lift
Requirements
- Associates Degree (or equivalent years of experience {5-7}) in a maintenance discipline.
- Strong maintenance background w/minimum of 5-7 years of preventative maintenance experience
- Experience troubleshooting and problem-solving in a manufacturing/food processing environment.
- Experience working with Allen Bradley controls, Siemens, Schneider, Beckhoff, and various drive technologies.
- Four (4) years of PLC/control system troubleshooting/programming/repairing experience.
- Working knowledge of a wide range of maintenance disciplines (Analytical, Electrical, Automation/Instrumentation, Mechanical, lean maintenance
- Strong organizational and leadership skills for a multifaceted work environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, strong oral and written communication.
- Computer Skills: Microsoft software such as excel, word, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of E-maintenance and/or SAP is a plus
- Detail-oriented and customer-focused.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record satisfactory to the Company and its insurers.
- Must have or the capability to obtain a TWIC card.
- Experience with Confined Space Programs
Job position requires individual to work outdoors. Ability to work at high heights. Must be available for weekends and work some second shifts. Must be able to lift 50lbs and be safety conscious. Must be able to obtain a TWIC card.
Normal work week is Monday-Friday 7am-4pm.
