JOB SUMMARYAthens Administrators has an immediate need for a full-time Auto Claims Examiner Trainee to support our Property and Casualty team and can be located in our Lake Mary, FL office or our Parsippany, NJ office. This position will work from home until the quarantines are lifted. Athens offices are open for business Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Auto Examiner Trainee will be responsible for the timely investigation, evaluation and determination of settlement or denial of minor to moderate auto claims. They will handling claims from inception to closure. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESIncumbent will learn to perform the following duties and will gain the skills, ability and judgement to perform these duties with minimal supervision after a training period of three to six months. The trainee is expected to become proficient in handling Commercial Auto Physical Damage claims after a maximum of six months. If all Principal Duties and Responsibilities, along with the Essential Job Requirements, are met and the trainee’s skillset in all items is at an appropriate level, it is anticipated the trainee will transition into a Claims Examiner Level 1 position within twelve months of hire.

  • Attend and successfully complete the Best Foot 4ward Auto Claims Examiner trainee immersion and/or 12-course training program sponsored and paid for by Athens.
  • The program will provide essential training to build knowledge of the insurance industry, including but not limited to review of commercial auto policies, coverage analysis, proactive claims handling, damage assessment, reserve analysis and evaluation, fundamentals of communication (writing, email, documentation), resolution analysis and claim handling practices
  • During the course of classroom training, participate in a program of in-person or virtual training sessions focusing on systems (SIMS), processing, performance, production and best practices modeled to service clients and achieve maximum output and quality service
  • Secure the appropriate State licenses that are required of an Athens claims adjuster within 180 days of hire and maintain the licenses
  • Handle incoming telephone calls, respond to voicemail, emails and written communication as outlined in Athens’ Claims Handling Standards
  • Adjust new claims in compliance with State and policy requirements
  • Verify coverage and applicable deductible amount prior to issuance of payment to 1st (insured) or 3rd parties
  • Perform thorough investigation through statements, locus diagrams and photos, police reports, and other critical evidence to determine causation and liability
  • Assign appraisals, collect estimates and close claims promptly upon damages being verified.
  • Update information on the computer, i.e. coding and compliance applicable to state and federal insurance authorities such as NICB, NMVTIS, ISO or others
  • Contact insureds and claimants and/or their legal representative, for information pertaining to vehicle damage and settlement
  • Issue liability denial letters, when appropriate
  • Process state appropriate forms or registration entries for total losses and salvage through the title procurement process
  • Secure required W-9 forms from service providers as needed
  • Process checks, stop payments, and void checks as needed
  • Identify potential fraud “red flags” and report to SIU vendor partner as needed
  • Additional duties as assigned
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTSThe requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Florida State adjusters license(s) required within 180 days, other licenses may also be required
  • High school diploma required, college degree preferred
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to research and resolve problems
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently and in a group setting
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (fax, phone, printer, scanner, etc.)
  • Ability to work in a paperless environment
  • Ability to type quickly, accurately and for prolonged periods
  • Must demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness in work product
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Infrequent lifting of up to 20lbs may be required
  • Computer literate and experience navigating various computer systems, including MS Word, Excel and Outlook and database management with the ability to learn additional computer programs
  • Understanding of medical and legal terminology
  • Mathematical calculating skills
  • Computer processing skills
  • Organizational skills to allow compliance with multiple state mandated deadlines
