Responsibilities: The Assistant Nurse Manager I (ANM) is the first line manager designated as the leader for a specific shift, its patient population, and assigned nursing staff. As such, he/she has accountability for all patient care activities, unit operations and staff functions for that shift. ANM shares responsibility for on call coverage as needed for designated departments. Job responsibilities are dependent on the area of specialty. Must be creative, resourceful, independent, and possess a high degree of initiative to function with minimal supervision and guidance.
The ANM is responsible for ensuring the hospital’s mission to provide clinically excellent patient care, coordination of care, discharge planning, service excellence, and cost-efficiency be achieved. Insures that legal, professional and institutional policies, regulations and standards are met.
The ANM is a registered nurse with advanced knowledge and skills in coordinating and providing care for patient population served within assigned areas. Functions with limited supervision utilizing independent and collaborative judgement in decision making. Reports directly to the Nurse Manager.
Accountability is measured by performance standards, unit goal achievement, performance improvement and patient safety activities, direct observations and budget management.
The provision of nursing care will be provided in an environment that embraces maximum participation by the staff nurses, the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses and the ANA Practice Standards. Embraces shared governance nursing organizational principals by serving on and allowing staff to serve on nursing councils as participant or leader so that outcome, goals and objectives of nursing are achieved.
Demonstrates population-specific competencies (e.g. age-specific, cultural sensitivity, patient-centered communication) in performance of role.
Qualifications:EducationGraduate of an approved school of nursing.
Licensure/Certification
Current and valid professional nurse licensure in the State of Georgia required.
All areas require BLS certification.
ACLS, NALS, PALS and CPI may be required for designated departments.
Certification in respective area is preferred.
Experience
Two years of experience in nursing, one in a leadership position.

Demonstrates excellent leadership and problem solving skills to manage people through counseling and teaching, to delegate, and to hold accountable.
Demonstrates ability to make sound decisions and resolves problems/issues within scope and established procedures.
Demonstrates ability to relate to and to communicate with all levels of personnel, management, physicians, families and others.
Philosophy of health care and nursing is compatible with that of the institution.
Demonstrates ability to assess, plan, and manage staffing to meet financial and quality outcomes on a short term (shift by shift, daily) and long term basis.
Demonstrates ability to manage the care of designated patient populations so that desired outcomes (clinical, service, and financials) is achieved.
Demonstrates knowledge of computer programs.
Physical Demands
Standing for long periods of time (8 to 12 hours)
Walking for long periods of time (8 to 12 hours) to include moving about the work area, hospital and/or campus as needed
Sitting for extended periods (8 to 12 hours)
Must be able to bend, stoop and reach/lift above your head
Sight: must be able to read documentation in a variety of formats such as items in print or electronically. Must be able to visualize patient condition and see data displayed on monitoring devices, etc.
Auditory: must be able to hear in order to clearly communicate with others and use communication devices such as telephones, must be able to hear patients, alarms, call bells, etc.
Tactile: must have ability to handle equipment and/or devices related to job duties, enter documentation within computer system. For HCP must be able to feel for pulses, skin temperature, and other patient conditions
Olfactory: HCP need to be able to smell disease-specific smells
Healthcare Provider should not manually lift (including transfer, reposition, or move) patients who weigh greater than 35 pounds. The appropriate safe patient handling device will be used, except in emergency situations (life or death situations where delay in obtaining and using the safe patient handling equipment may be detrimental to the patient). Refer to Policy/Procedure G-89.
