Club Athletics Program

Northwest Nazarene University (NNU) Club Athletic programs will compete with teams in a variety of associated conferences at the club level. NNU offers the following two sports for men and women at the club level: Lacrosse and Soccer.

Men’s lacrosse will compete in the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) and join the Pacific Northwest Collegiate Lacrosse League (PNCLL). The PNCLL currently consists of 6 Division I teams and 12 Division II teams, representing Washington, Idaho, Oregon, Montana, and British Columbia, Canada. NNU will compete in Division II.

Description of Position

The Club Sports & Recreation Office is seeking applicants for a part-time coaching assignment, exempt position, as the Men’s Assistant Lacrosse Coach. The MLAX Asst. Coach for Northwest Nazarene University is part of the Department for Student Life and reports to the Head MLAX coach and the Director of Club Sports and Recreation.

Essential Functions

Assist the Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach in all areas of operating a Club Athletics lacrosse program, including, but not limited to:

Coaching, recruiting, individual player development, academic and athletic eligibility oversight, fundraising, equipment management, and other duties as assigned.

Administration and operation of a men’s lacrosse team, including, but not limited to:

  • Assist in recruitment of new players
  • Help maintain a roster of 15-18 players
  • Organize and play a schedule of 10-14 games per year
  • Coaching at both games and practices
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach and the Director of Club Sports and Recreation

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School or Bachelor’s degree
  • Lacrosse coaching experience
  • Sufficient skills, knowledge, and training to perform the essential functions of this position
  • The University requires that all candidates be Christians (preferably in the Wesleyan tradition), and must be comfortable with and in agreement with the mission and lifestyle values of NNU; candidates are asked to respond to the information items listed on the NNU Christian Mission requirements
  • High motivation and commitment to the University, organizational skills, the ability to self-start, be calm under pressure, meet deadlines, work without direct supervision, multi-task, problem solve, and relate to a variety of personalities under diverse circumstances
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to obtain and maintain current First Aid and CPR certifications
  • Ability to obtain NNU driving certification
  • Offer of employment is contingent on successful results from a background investigation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Collegiate/Club level (or equivalent) Lacrosse coaching experience
  • Experience recruiting student-athletes
  • Administrative experience
  • Knowledge of League rules and regulations
  • Proficiency in utilizing workplace technology

Compensation

Salary will be determined by the educational background and experience of each applicant and will be discussed with individual candidates as they are invited to interview for this position. Part-time personnel are not eligible for benefits package unless position meets benefits eligibility.
