Associate User Experience (UX) Designer

DescriptionUnder supervision, to collaborate with stakeholders and IT team members to create engaging and effective user experiences; to set-up, run, and report on all aspects of qualitative and quantitative User Experience (UX) research; and to conduct user testing and other user-facing activities to validate the design, visualization, interaction and content.

Typical Tasks- Uses photographic library to grab images and integrate into the Web design;
- Conducts user research using methods such as: ethnographic field studies, participatory design sessions, site visits, focus groups, benchmark studies, usability studies, heuristic evaluations, and similar approaches;
- Analyzes user feedback and activity, and incorporates findings in an iterative manner;
- Troubleshoots glitches and problems with website design;
- Updates database of research;
- Develops UI sketches, wireframes, and prototypes for desktop, tablet, and mobile phone sizes to show user and screen flow, navigation, and interaction detail;
- Creates graphical assets and icons for use in user interface products; models graphic designs based on standards and branding;
- Helps maintain the UX library and toolkit;
- Collects, reviews, and may assist in refining client requirements;
- Translates business requirements into user experience design specifications;
- Translates requirements into storyboards, site maps, user journeys, user flows, user layouts, and use cases;
- Executes lab-based user testing, remote testing, paper prototype testing, iterative prototype testing, and concept testing;
- May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker, as required;
- Performs other related duties, as required.
Employment StandardsSufficient education, training, and experience to demonstrate the possession and direct application of the following knowledge and abilities:
Training and Experience:
Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in Web Design, Graphic Design, Interactive Design, Psychology, Business Administration, Marketing, or related degree,
and
Three (3) years of experience designing user experiences for mobile apps, mobile and desktop web or experience in visual or interaction designer.
OR
Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college,
and
Five (5) years of experience designing user experiences for mobile apps, mobile and desktop web, or experience in visual or interaction designer.
Special Requirements- Ability to travel to alternate locations in the course of work. If driving, possession of a valid California driver's license prior to appointment and the ability to qualify for and maintain a County driver authorization.
- Depending on the position, related certifications may be desirable.
Knowledge of:- Design principles such as layout, visual hierarchy, typography, and color;
- Design research, user experience design processes and methodology, its value and how to integrate into work;
- Tools common to visual and UX design work and prototyping;
- Web content management, web programming languages and computer graphic applications;
- Troubleshooting website design problems;
- Web design layout and formatting;
- Concepts and resources used in web site design;
- Various user testing methods.
Ability to:- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand and unite business goals and user goals;
- Work under pressure and deadlines, effectively prioritizing assignments;

- Keep current and learn to utilize emerging web technology applications and tools related to web page/site design and maintenance;

- Write code specific to develop web pages/sites;
