The Associate Director of Public Relations will lead timely, responsive communications for CJP, which includes crisis communications, reputation management, and inbound media requests. Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Communications and Brand Programs, the Associate Director, Public Relations works collaboratively with the Communications team, CJP’s PR agency, and stakeholders across all levels of the organization to increase awareness of CJP’s mission and impact in the community.


This role develops and implements crisis communications plans and helps advance emergency preparedness for the organization. This role also assists in promoting CJP’s strategic priorities and establishing thought leadership opportunities for executive leadership in the media, including the President and CEO.


The ideal candidate is an experienced issues manager, passionate about communications and working in a high-paced environment and excels at managing different groups of stakeholders. They have a solid understanding of communication channel effectiveness, and a good sense of corporate storytelling. The person in this role is an individual contributor with visibility and engagement across all of CJP.

Essential Functions
  • Work cross-functionally with colleagues and teams across the organization, including Communications, Israel and Global Jewry and others in Strategy & Impact, and CJP’s Communal Security on crisis response and crisis planning. Draft statements, email appeals, blogs, editorials, talking points, and other relevant communications for external and internal audiences under tight deadlines.
  • Help articulate CJP’s strategic priorities for external communication. Partner with the content owner(s) to draft communications for a broad and varied audience.
  • Partner with AVP Communications and Brand Programs and PR Agency to develop and execute on a plan to continually raise CJP’s reputation, trust, and presence in the Greater Boston community and beyond.
  • Manage the implementation of stakeholder communications plans, including reviewing and/or drafting stakeholder engagement materials, and overseeing approvals of internal and external statements, company-wide messages, and media responses.
  • Manage inbound media requests; collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including PR agency, to address inquiries.
  • Keep current on social media, mobile trends, and emerging digital technologies, bringing best practices from both the for-profit and nonprofit world to test innovative communications.
  • Regularly monitor news and stay abreast of local events to ensure the Communications team and senior leaders are aware of any relevant issues that need to be considered and/or addressed.
  • Help leverage news stories across digital platforms and consider best ways to broaden reach of positive third-party stories.
  • Act as one of CJP’s spokespersons to general media.
  • Support broader media relations efforts through local storytelling.
  • Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation.
  • BA Communications, Journalism, or related
  • 5+ years of experience in public relations, communications and/or journalism.
  • 3+ years of internal communications experience (large corporate setting or professional services organization is an asset).
  • Experience working with digital media.
  • Demonstrated strong track record of developing, leading and managing digital marketing efforts.
  • Writing experience in a variety of different formats (statements, blogs, social posts, newsletters, etc.).
  • Exceptional writing, storytelling, and editing skills
  • Ability to gather relevant information and transform it into clear, concise, and engaging content.
  • Strong collaborator and capacity to work effectively with cross-functional teams at all levels, including executive leadership.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively under pressure with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and balance short-term needs with long-term strategic initiatives.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changes and shifting priorities.
  • Able to handle any/all confidential information, issues, and matters in a sensitive manner.
  • Familiarity with current issues in Israel and the Jewish community.
  • Available to work outside of normal business hours to address crisis situations.
