Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required from an accredited four-year institution.
  • Eight or more years of advancement or alumni relations experience with increasing responsibilities in managing staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and evaluate an array of activities and events to meet the interests and needs of the school's alumni and friends.
  • Possess a strong commitment to customer service.
  • Ability to work collegially and collaboratively in a team setting and with diverse groups.
  • Strong problem-solving and project management skills with a demonstrated record of managing multiple priorities, engaging others, and delegating work as needed, while meeting tight deadlines.
  • Effective written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including occasional weekends and evenings and some travel.
  • Lead by example as we learn and bring awareness to the importance of antiracism and DEI through the school’s strategic plan for antiracism.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Leadership experience in an academic, health, or nonprofit setting.

The Associate Chief Advancement Officer for Operations and Alumni Engagement reports to the Chief Advancement Officer and is a senior strategic leader for SPH’s advancement team, which includes development and alumni relations. This position is responsible for strategic oversight and management of SPH’s core advancement operations, including donor relations & stewardship, alumni relations & annual giving, advancement events, corporate & foundation relations and communications. The Associate Chief Advancement Officer for Operations and Alumni Engagement assists the Chief Advancement Officer with administration, leadership, and decision-making for the department.

The Associate Chief Advancement Officer for Operations and Alumni Engagement provides supervision and management for the Assistant Director of Engagement, Communications and DEI, the Donor Relations Manager and the Associate Development Officer.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Oversight of SPH’s Core Advancement Operations: (40%)
  • Provide overall leadership and set direction, including long-term and annual planning for advancement operations:

o annual giving & alumni relations
o departmental events
o donor relations & stewardship
o corporate & foundation relations
o donor and alumni communications

  • Work with the Chief Advancement Officer and the advancement team to fully integrate all alumni engagement, annual giving and donor relations efforts with development. Serve as an extension Chief Advancement Officer guiding day-to-day operations and providing program strategic oversight for the team.
  • Manage and supervise three direct reports:

o Supervises Assistant Director of Engagement, Communications and DEI; directs the school’s alumni, volunteer and donor engagement, mentor program, advancement communications, marketing and events. Actively build the capacity of our staff and volunteers to skillfully address key priorities of the school’s Strategic Plan for Antiracism
o Supervises Donor Relations Manager; directs implementation and execution of a comprehensive system of donor recognition for the school to advance donor engagement, cultivation, and stewardship of gifts at all levels. Actively manage gift administration and fund management, scholarship program coordination, support annual giving retention strategies and collaborate on principle gift acquisition strategies.
o Supervises Associate Development Officer; works to secure major philanthropic gifts from individuals, alumni, corporations and foundations. This position also will build the pipeline of donors that give annual gifts with potential for major or planned gift relationships and opportunities.

Alumni Relations (25%)
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate annual alumni engagement initiatives collaboratively with the Advancement Team and the SPH Alumni Society and MHA Alumni AssociationBoards, coordinating with the School's divisions and other SPH units such as student services to build affinity, stimulate engagement and grow support of the school.
  • Direct SPH alumni board relations, deploying resources of the team to support the board and its committees in service to the mission of SPH.
  • Serve as the School of Public Health's advocate and liaison to the University of Minnesota Alumni Association, including leading the development and implementation of the collegiate compact with the UMAA in coordination with the Dean and/or senior leadership.

Annual Giving (25%)
  • Plan, implement and evaluate a multi-year, segmented annual giving program in concert with the UMF and collaboratively with other members of the SPH Advancement team as well as with the divisions and other SPH units as appropriate using a mix of strategies to effectively and significantly expand awareness, interest, support, and action by alumni and friends of SPH.
  • Identify and research annual gift prospects, communicating regularly with the Chief Advancement Officer and the UMF to ensure coordination and knowledge of key donors and prospects.
  • Inform recognition, reporting and stewardship strategy that assists in developing a strong annual base of support for the school and develops a pipeline for major gifts

Corporate and Foundation Relations (10%)
  • Develop a portfolio of 5-10 corporations and foundations whose philanthropic interests align with areas and programs in SPH.
  • Serve as a liaison to the University of Minnesota Foundation’s corporate/foundation relations team and attend regular monthly meetings as well as strategy meetings.
  • Work with corporate/foundation relations research team to identify new CFR prospects.

100% Full-time Academic Professional Non-Faculty; 12 month; Annually renewable contract
Salary range: $100,000-$110,000 depending on qualifications and level of experience
