SCAD Savannah seeks an associate chair of foundation studies, a position that assists in the development of a thoughtfully curated series of courses that provides students with a studio foundation that builds visual, conceptual, and creative abilities essential to their development as professionals. These skills propel students into major-specific disciplines where their achievements are internationally recognized with honors, from European Product Design Awards and Student Emmy Awards to American Advertising Awards and more.

As associate chair, you will also assist the department chair with evaluating professors through observations, student evaluation reviews, service and professional development, and contributions to departmental goals. As assigned, you will also teach classes. In collaboration with the chair and dean, you will develop, implement, and oversee the departmental budget as well as provide professional development opportunities for professors. You will work with the admission department to recruit talented undergraduate students to SCAD. In addition to assisting the chair with day-to-day administration of the foundation studies department, you will also foster interdepartmental collaboration and continue to enhance the reputation of the SCAD foundation studies department in academic and professional circles.

Ideal candidates have a strong portfolio of professional work as well as the ability to teach drawing and design classes in an active and engaging learning environment. Candidates should also have experience with Adobe Creative Suite and university-level administration experience.

Through rotating exhibitions at SCAD museums and galleries and the university’s extensive permanent collection, you and your students will have exclusive access to objects of study at the SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah, SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film in Atlanta, and the university’s numerous galleries. Enriching signature events invite visiting artists from across the globe to engage in creative discourse. Recent guest artists have included Carlos Cruz-Diez, Alfredo Jaar, Carrie Mae Weems, Hank Willis Thomas, Dustin Yellin, and Omar Victor Diop, to name a few.
