The Communication Team supports the mission and goals of the enrollment division by ensuring consistent and relevant messaging to educate, excite and empower prospective and current members of the DU community through creative and innovative strategies. The Communication Team is responsible for creating and/or reviewing all communication touchpoints across a variety of platforms (website, social media, video, print, electronic, digital marketing, text messages, etc.) and works collaboratively to envision and execute campaigns in all these areas.
Position Summary
We have two positions available to hire at the Assistant/Associate Director level. Both positions will be on The Communication Team and report to the Director of Communication while also functioning as an Admission Counselor. One position will focus on print and electronic communications, and the other position will focus on digital marketing and communication.
Essential Functions
Communication Position 1:
- Assist director in developing and executing an integrated marketing and communication plan and producing excellent print and electronic communication materials
- Create and execute direct mail campaigns and supporting print projects
- Build, manage and retain strategic relationships with vendors that supply print services
- Oversee vendor relations with two key vendors requires you to serve as the day-to-day point of contact for the vendors as well as craft the communication timeline for major initiatives
- Craft content for bimonthly prospective/summer-monthly deposited e-newsletters for various groups including students, families, international students, and transfer students
- Develop communications plans for various departments across DU, acting as a staff and faculty liaison; including but not limited to Pioneer Leadership Program, Honors Program, Living and Learning Communities and academic-specific outreach
- Contribute to internal communication efforts by devising admission related updates as needed and collaborating with the Director of Communication to implement standard brand practices across the Enrollment Division
- Act as a liaison to the visit team for communication needs
- Sets a verbal picture of how visitors see our campus
- Fulfill additional responsibilities dependent upon the organic needs of the Communication Team
Communication Position 2:
- Work directly with the Director of Communication and Marketing to plan, create, and implement a digital communication strategy including digital advertising, email messaging, and web features.
- Launch, develop, and manage digital tools for staff, including an improved admitted student portal.
- Update and oversee websites for Undergraduate Admission, collaborating with office partners to ensure information is accurate and to ensure it is applicable to a diverse audience.
- Design and maintain digital media for office functions, including but not limited to information session presentations and digital display screens.
- Maintain office portfolio of photography, videos, and other digital media.
- Act as a liaison to provide communications planning support to one of our internal teams: Transfer, Visit, International, Diversity and College Access, or Recruitment.
- Supervise Media Intern, a current undergraduate student who is responsible for creating video content and contributing to office programming efforts.
- Manage and update Undergraduate Admission’s YouTube channel.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities dependent upon the organic needs of the Communications Team.
Admission Counselor:
- Assist Admission team as an Admission Counselor, including management of all recruitment aspects of an assigned territory both locally and nationally (including extensive travel in the fall and spring)
- Responsible for building strong relationships with students, parents, school counselors & community-based organizations
- Review applications and determine whether an applicant is academically prepared to succeed at DU, based on assessment of the student’s curriculum, grades, test scores, essay, recommendations, activities, and other attributes
- Along with the entire Enrollment Division, Admission Counselors share responsibility to attract excellent students by being sensitive to, and understanding, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds of students
- Divide communication-related meetings across campus with Director of Communication as needed
- Evaluate and recruit high caliber and academically qualified students within an assigned territory
- Present and moderate in-person and virtual information sessions and webinars for prospective and deposited families
- Manage a territory by evaluating and implementing the best course of action to connect with students (what to do, where to recruit, methods to be used, etc.) in a way that’s unique to that territory
- Read applications from students who have applied from their assigned territories
- Be a student’s advocate during admission committee meetings by being prepared to talk about student’s overall alignment with DU
- Provide decision files to Deans of each College/Division as well as individual academic units and liaise with them for further correspondence with prospective students
- Serve as a professional, enthusiastic & ethical ambassador for DU
- Maintain extensive knowledge of, and remain current on, the University of Denver’s academic and degree programs, clubs and organizations, extracurricular programs, and other key campus characteristics
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Excellent written, verbal, and public speaking skills
- Act independently to resolve issues, enhance programs, or facilitate initiatives in collaboration with Director of Communication
- Utilize and draw from both quantitative and qualitative data sources to make the most informed and comprehensive decisions

Required Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Assistant Director:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Two (2) to three (3) years of professional work related to admission, recruiting, college access, student advising, sales or marketing, ideally in a higher education or a college access setting
- Valid driver’s license
Minimum Qualifications Associate Director:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Three (3) to five (5) years of professional work related to admission, recruiting, college access, student advising, sales or marketing, ideally in a higher education or a college access setting. At least two of those years should include experience with communication and marketing.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications Assistant Director:
- Experience in content creation
- Graphic design or video production experience
- Extensive understanding of inclusion, demographics, educational equity & intersectional identity considerations within the college admission landscape
- Proficiency or fluency in a second language
Preferred Qualifications Associate Director:
- Project management experience in respective areas (print/electronic or web/digital)
- Experience in content creation across a variety of platforms in respective areas (print/electronic or web/digital)
- Graphic design or video production experience
- Drupal experience for digital marketing position
- Extensive understanding of inclusion, demographics, educational equity & intersectional identity considerations within the college admission landscape
- Proficiency or fluency in a second language
- Familiarity with Slate Technolutions and experience developing communications for diverse markets
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Extensive travel in the fall and spring.

Salary Grade Number:
- The salary grade number for Assistant Director is 8.
- The salary grade number for Associate Director is 9.
Salary Range:
- The salary range for Assistant Director is $50,000 - $54,000.
- The salary range for Associate Director is $55,000 - $59,000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range.
