Assistant Vice President of Human Resources Details

High Point University is currently seeking a full-time Assistant Vice President of Human Resources. Under the direction of the Associate Vice President, the Assistant Vice President of Human Resources will provide strategic planning, leadership, management, and oversight of the Human Resources function for staff, faculty, and student employees. They will implement human resources policies and practices that are innovative and best-in-class to advance the university’s core educational, operational, and administrative objectives. They will plan and manage HR activities including, but not limited to, development of policies and procedures, administration of payroll, benefits and retirement programs, performance management and compensation programs, employment, employee relations, maintenance of HR-related data, and providing guidance and direction to departmental management. The Assistant Vice President of Human Resources will also ensure Workday HCM systems are setup and updated as needed to reflect current policies and employee base, including wages, benefits, paid leave, position, department, and employee type. QUALIFICATIONS: Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s degree in Business, Human Resources or related field strongly preferred
  • Specific human resources education and training, with Senior Professional Human Resources SPHR or Senior Certified Professional in Human Resources Management SHRM-SCP certification(s) strongly preferred
Experience and Training
  • Proven track record of providing strategic human resources leadership in complex organizations including within academic institutions
  • Minimum eight years human resources experience, including at least five years in a leadership capacity
  • Workday experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
  • Advanced knowledge of federal/state employment, wage and hour, and ERISA laws and regulations and private sector policies and procedures. Ability to interpret and advise on the application of laws and regulations regarding the administration of University policy.
  • Working experience of payroll tax at the federal and state level.
  • Knowledge of organizational structures
  • Advanced knowledge of benefits, salary administration, and performance management plans and programs
  • Knowledge of computerized information systems used in human resources applications; knowledge/experience with Workday systems is preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Serves as a key partner in advancing the University’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
  • Provides administrative leadership and supervision for the recruitment, employee selection and retention, student employment, new employee orientation/onboarding, employee wellness, recordkeeping, payroll and benefits, compliance, respective Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), and other areas related to all HR functions.
  • Champions University culture and employee engagement by proactively identifying areas across campus for process improvements, innovation and opportunities for efficiency and synergy.
  • Serves as a trusted partner to senior leadership, managers, and supervisors to develop and embed progressive HR strategies and processes to assist in driving employee commitment.
  • Participates in strategic planning and provides leadership with guidance in carrying out plans related to workforce planning, succession planning, engagement, and retention strategy.
  • Assumes responsibility for special projects set forth by the Associate VP of Human Resources, the Senior Vice President of Business Affairs, the President, and other senior leaders across campus.
  • Provides guidance to hiring managers in the recruitment and selection of staff employees; develops and maintains positive relations with applicants.
  • Regularly reviews and recommends amendments to existing policies, handbooks including the development of new policies as appropriate.
  • Assists with the counsel and coaching of staff, faculty, and supervisors with appropriate steps towards effective employee performance improvement and remediating violations of University policy and work expectations.
  • Effectively carries out fair workplace investigations designed to minimize and mediate workplace disputes and foster a positive and productive work environment.
  • Creates and monitors HR analytical metrics and develop strategies for improvement of HR processes and overall operations based on analysis
  • Works with the Business Office to monitor salary/fringe budget and quarterly projections for all departments.
  • Serves as Title IX Deputy for Human Resources and partner with the Director of Title IX as required.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders including legal counsel and other HR professionals.
  • Ensures university compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, rules and regulations related to human resource management.
  • Other duties as assigned
