The Institute of Marine and Environmental Technology (IMET) is a joint University System of Maryland research institute capitalizing on the strengths of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES), the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), and the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). More information about IMET can be found at www.imet.usmd.edu . IMET seeks to hire an Assistant to the Executive Director to provide professional administrative support to the IMET Director. This position will operate primarily as the Office Manager in the IMET Director’s Office. The duties of this position include: administrative coordination with the lead Administrators for the three IMET institutions; managing the IMET Director’s budget, including monthly reconciliations; event management for IMET meetings, weekly seminars, public events, and conferences with local and international collaborators and donors; handling highly confidential and/or sensitive documents and matters; updating the IMET website; producing IMET’s Annual Report together with the Director and Associate Director; and other administrative tasks, such as managing the Director’s schedule, making travel arrangements for the Executive Director and visitors, compiling meeting minutes and assisting Faculty Search committees. Some knowledge of public relations and scientific background is desirable. Experience with Microsoft and Google programs is required and experience with website editing and Adobe software is desired. Bachelor’s Degree required and at least 2 years of experience in an upper level Assistant position highly preferred. Accounting and event planning experience required. With little to no supervision, must be able to handle multiple tasks and priorities in a high?paced, high output environment. Excellent communications and customer service skills are a must, as well as use of independent judgment, initiative, writing and editing skills to prepare correspondence, and Institute?related presentations, including quarterly newsletters. The ability to develop strong working relationships with high?level officials locally, nationally and internationally is imperative because of IMET’s overall mission and goals.
