The Assistant Superintendent position is located within The Country Club of Ocala.

$16 to $19 per hour + OT

SIGN ON BONUS UP TO $500 AFTER 90 DAYS OF SERVICE

Job purpose

The assistant golf course superintendent reports directly to the golf course superintendent. Under the superintendent's supervision, the assistant superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment; and does related work as required. The assistant superintendent may serve in the superintendent's capacity during his/her absence.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit weekly employee schedules and bi-weekly payroll summaries to the GM. Adjust actual schedules to ensure efficient use of employees.
  • Assist in the preparation, and the adherence of the Operational budget.
  • Attend and participate in weekly department and other periodic employee and member meetings.
  • Plan, organize, manage and supervise daily play as instructed by Superintendent.
  • Create a positive, attentive professional service environment in all golf departments.
  • Maximize tee sheet capabilities and revenues, ie. market analysis to ensure rates are properly positioned, solicit memberships, & tournaments, member guest coupons, etc.
  • Manage and monitor accurate daily financial reporting.
  • Conduct daily facility walk through to ensure the facility is safe and presentable and that courtesy and efficiency are being exercised throughout.
  • Participate in the formulation of the annual and seasonal Club Marketing Campaigns and promotions.
  • Prepare, organize and maintain the club?s Calendar of Events by communicating with the Course Superintendent, Food and Beverage Manager, Social Committee, Community Coordinator and the Men?s & Women?s Golf Association and the Hampton Golf Marketing Department.
  • Protect the assets of the Club.
  • Operate within all guidelines, policies, standards and constraints as established by Hampton Golf.
  • Provide club orientation to new members as instructed by Superintendent.
  • Participate in member golf activities with and provide golf instruction and clinics to members and guests.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways and greens; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; irrigation systems, including wells, pumps, and automatic controls.
  • Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; prepare clear and concise reports; maintain effective employee and public relations.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • May require current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.

Working conditions

Work is primarily outdoors with some indoor exposure. Potential exposure to sharp and rapid equipment movement, sharp utensils, harmful chemicals and/or being exposed to flying golf balls.

Physical requirements

Good organizational and verbal skills. Ability to use logical and rational thinking to resolve issues. Ability to perform basic mathematical skills, monitors and develops subordinates, visually monitor the operation areas, write and read member communication.

Must have the ability to perform moderate physical work and may be required to lift up to 80 lbs., up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 20 lbs. constantly. Perform activities such as bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing, reaching, standing, pushing, lifting and grasping for up to 5 hours without sitting.

Please be advised that all work that requires the use of a ladder more than 8 ft. long must be reviewed by Hampton Golf’s Club Maintenance person. Following his assessment of the situation, he will determine if he or subcontractors will perform the necessary maintenance task. No other staff member is authorized to climb to heights exceeding 8 ft. and or perform such maintenance. In addition, personnel are prohibited from entering facility attics, walking on the roof of buildings, and/or prohibited from using scaffolding.

Use the following safety precautions when using an 8ft. ladder:

  • Correct placement of the ladder. The safest angle for a straight ladder is to ensure it is placed on-fourth the distance from the base to the point of support. “A” frame ladders naturally comply.
  • Ensure the ladder is placed on a firm level surface, and do not place the ladder near a doorway.
  • Ensure there are non-skid shoes on the ladder.
  • If using a medal ladder, be sure that it is not near electrical wires.
  • One person on a ladder at one time, and ensure another staff member is holding the ladder in position.
  • Never overreach.
  • Ability to consistently lift, carry and load adaptive and other sports equipment that may weigh 50 or more pounds, and sustain aerobic activity for 20 consecutive minutes
