For detailed information regarding the 55-a Program, please visit the following link https://www1.nyc.gov/site/dcas/employment/55-a-program.page Under direction of Senior staff in the Automated Track Inspections group, the incumbent will be responsible for obtaining detailed track geometry, tunnel crosscut, ultrasonic, rail wear, Thermal Imaging image measurements and reports of NYCT mainline tracks with measurement systems on the Track Geometry Cars. The incumbent will verify ultrasonic defects using hand test techniques. The Asst./Intern Mechanical Engineer will analyze critical defects obtained on Track Geometry Cars inspections and create detailed reports for distribution to Track Maintenance group to initiate corrective actions. The incumbent will calibrate and test the Track Geometry, Tunnel laser, ultrasonic, Thermal Image, video systems and others as required. The incumbent must analyze, review, and report defects using Offboard programs of DAPCO UT, Plasser, and Z&F/Amberg software programs. The incumbent will also be required to detect errors in the existing Track Geometry databases by checking for quality and accuracy of records. Incumbent will also work on other analytical & technical tasks performed by Track Engineering. A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university and one year full time satisfactory experience in mechanical engineering work. A Master’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college can only be used to substitute for one year full time satisfactory work experience in mechanical engineering. A degree in any other engineering area, or in any technology area is not acceptable. Knowledge of track construction, inspections, and related train operations. Experience with ultrasonic analysis and verification techniques. Experience with GPS/laser equipment and measurements techniques. Knowledge of physical layout of main line tracks and yards of NYCT and of track geometry devices and track defects. Knowledge of PC software applications & PC hardware, data analysis and statistical reporting.
