Position Summary: The Gallatin School of Individualized Study at NYU seeks an Assistant Director, Communications to, in partnership with the Director of Communications, develop a unified communications strategy for the Gallatin School for print and digital media, the Web, and public relations. Write and edit materials for dissemination through print and electronic media; and provide editorial and graphic design oversight of all communications within the School. Ensure quality and consistency—focusing on news, bios, events, and review of all internal and external text about the School for multiple audiences. Consult with faculty and students to learn more about their research and awards and strategize sharing of this information with the community. Track and archive all news and updates as needed. Support the Director of Communications, especially with all print publication planning and development, and guide direction of major print pieces year-round.Qualifications: Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Arts and Humanities

Preferred Education:
Master's Degree Arts and Humanities field, journalism or other fields of writing OR high level of output in print or digital.

Required Experience:
3+ years relevant experience in journalism or a similar field involving intensive writing and editing, storytelling, including copyediting and the preparation of materials for publication or digital platforms.

Preferred Experience:
Experience in academic or creative setting; proven success in supporting major communications goals; experience with news, events, and features in print or online; experience in branding and style guides.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent command of the English language and grammar; excellent editing and writing skills, and organizational, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
