REGISTRAR
Position Description: As the Registrar, you are responsible for all artwork tracking, storage, shipping and delivery logistics, and all reception functions. You’ll work directly with artists, global logistics teams, art handlers, framers, and clients to efficiently move artwork between various domestic and international locations.
This full- time position requires great attention to detail, strong organizational skills, diplomacy, and excellent communication skills. This person will also be a self-starter and able to act independently and collaboratively as projects require.
- Responsible for the safe and efficient movement of artwork between the various gallery locations, artists’ studios, storage facilities, and private homes.
- Organize artwork deliveries and installation to clients as requested by Sales Team/Operations Coordinator.
- Responsible for all shipments, custom clearance, and tax issues in collaboration with global logistic vendors.
- Knowledge including but not limited to strong fine-art supplier contacts, packing and crating, modes of transport, import and export compliance in the US and other countries.
- Register and update inventory database (Salesforce)
- Work closely with the Gallery Director, Gallery Curator and Operations Coordinator with the planning and managing of the installation and de-installation schedules for each exhibition.
- Condition Reporting
- Manage the storage of artwork on-site as well as at off-site storage locations.
- Oversee the organization of framing of artwork and in-house photography for documentation of works of art and exhibitions.
- Liaise with artist liaisons and dedicated sales staff on artist exhibition and contribute to budgetary oversight for the Gallery.
Education and Experience
Candidates who excel in this role, tend to have the following qualifications and skills, though others may be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Two-Three years’ experience as a Registrar/Logistics in a similar art world field
- Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree
- Interest in or passion for modern and contemporary art
- Knowledge of international customs and tax procedures is strongly preferred
- General knowledge of fine art shipping, handling, storage and packing
- Experience working with fine art shippers and fabricators
- Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work flexibly between office-related computer work as well as outdoor tasks such as overseeing artwork load-in and load-out
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently
- Superior organizational skills with ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work under pressure to meet deadlines
- Self-starter with a proactive approach to problem solving
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Salesforce, Dropbox and Google Apps for Business would be prefeed (Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator are a welcomed plus!)
