Animal Caretaker II Details

Feeds, waters, cleans and handles animals in the small animal clinic of the Veterinary Medical Center. Prepares and mixes feed, potables and special diets for animals; uses power sprayers, steam cleaners and other equipment to clean and maintain building and equipment; maintains ac curate records and observes animals for signs of illness and reports symptoms to supervisor; assembles and repairs cages and equipment within animal rooms. Frequent lifting of 26-75 lbs.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
  • High school graduation or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of animals and their care.
  • One year satisfactory experience as an Animal Caretaker I or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
  • Participate in job related in-service education.
  • Take first level AALAS* examination within one year of hire for CAR** employees. Optional for other units.
  • One year of experience working with laboratory rodent species for CAR ** employees
  • Willingness to work a flexible shift.
  • Possession of a valid Michigan vehicle operator license(s).
  • Frequent lifting of 26 to 75 pounds and occasional lifting of over 75 pounds.
