Position Summary
Serves as a subject matter expert in retirement plans and deferred compensation administration. Leads compliance activities for 403(b) and the deferred compensation plans; manages payment and funding processes for the retirement plans and tuition; and provides day-to-day operations support and customer service.
Job Description
This position is a hybrid work environment (on campus and remote); regular business hours with extra hours, as needed; and must have the ability to travel to various WashU campus locations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead annual 403(b) compliance activities including audit and 5500 reporting and SARs in collaboration with finance and external auditors; ensure compliance with all notice requirements, responsible for nondiscrimination testing.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the deferred compensation (457b, 457f) plans including enrollment, contributions, and distributions.
  • Monitor the supplemental retirement payments to ensure accuracy, as needed.
  • Coordinate with executive compensation team for information and support needed for board meetings.
  • Remit retirement plan contributions and funding in accordance with plan rules and standards after payroll and ad hoc as needed.
  • Make adjustments (mistake of facts), transfer files, process contributions and funding and associated financial entries for retirement plans, including the deferred compensation plans and tuition plans.
  • Request payment from the revenue credit account.
  • Process vendor payments and accruals.
  • Perform retirement plan data analysis and periodic data entry.
  • Proactively identify, propose solutions to, and correct issues that may arise.
  • Complete retirement plans projects, as assigned.
  • Assist employees with complex retirement plan questions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience administering large and complex retirement plans and deferred compensation plans.
  • Third party administration experience.
  • Experience working with retirement plan vendors.
  • Advanced experience working with Microsoft Excel
  • Workday system experience.
  • Demonstrated effective analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills - including the ability to communicate highly technical content.
  • Effective critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Focus on compliance and adherence to various legal and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Five to seven years of previous experience with benefits.

Salary Range
$50,500.00 - $86,200.00 / Annually
The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
