Coordinate and manage the Alumni and Donor Relations programs for the Mike Ilitch School of Business. Implement innovative plans and strategies to engage alumni and donors in meaningful ways, generate affinity, loyalty and enthusiasm for the college and provide purposeful cultivation and stewardship opportunities for donors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Manage alumni programs for the school's 31,000 alumni. Oversee the implementation and promotion of social and academic events and alumni communications.
Work collaboratively with the Dean, development staff and centrally-based colleagues to increase alumni support; cultivate and engage prospects for annual gifts; use planned activities to identify potential donor prospects; use communications to cultivate prospects, thank donors, and demonstrate the positive impact of alumni/donor involvement.
Manage an annual operations plan to accomplish goals and objectives, build a strong alumni relations program and increase alumni engagement. The plan will encompass alumni engagement objectives, contact and database goals.
Work closely with the Office of Alumni Relations to align strategies, communications and programming with overall divisional goals. Meet regularly to collaborate and review opportunities for partnership.
In partnership with the other members of the Donor Relations team, manage the stewardship process for Mike Ilitch School of Business donors, including preparing acknowledgement and stewardship letters, and creating opportunities for donors to meet student and faculty beneficiaries through on-campus events and personal visits.
Remain current with alumni and donor relations trends; serve as a resource on successful activities, alumni engagement techniques and methods.
Prepare project and event budgets. Monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with university policy and procedures.
Adhere to confidentiality and data usage policies.
This position requires a high level of commitment and enthusiasm. Due to travel requirements, evening meetings and special events, etc., incumbent must be willing to work extended hours as needed.

Education:
Bachelor's degree in marketing, public relations, business administration or related field from an accredited college or university.
Knowledge of fundraising software programs preferred.
Reasonable knowledge and understanding of University policies and procedures.
Experience:
Experienced (minimum 2 years of job-related experience)
Qualified candidate will have a minimum of two years experience as a development or marketing professional.
Higher education development or alumni relations experience and prior volunteer management experience preferred.
Direct experience with creating and maintaining effective alumni programs.
Experience using social media preferred.
Positive and collaborative professional philosophy, recognizing that this position is integral to the achievement of the Alumni Relations' goals and objectives.
COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS: Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and professionally both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills are a must.
PLANNING AND ORGANIZATION: Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines. Strong organizational and time-management skills.
ANALYTICAL AND PRESENTATION SKILLS: Ability to evaluate, interpret, and present complex information effectively in professionally prepared documents or presentations. Must possess a demonstrated attention to detail in order to achieve a high degree of accuracy.
TECHNICAL SKILLS: Proficient in the use of complex administrative systems software, preferably in the higher education environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
LEARNING AGILITY: Independent and innovative self-starter who displays an ability to learn quickly and easily adapts to changing situations. Experience researching topics to gain knowledge and understanding when information gaps exist.
TEAMWORK: Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues within the division and other units to gain full understanding of the project and desired outcome; ability to produce high quality and consistent results with assistance of team members; provide support to teammates when tackling complex.
