The ideal candidate will share Madera Community College's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. We currently enroll over 7,000 students in which 68% identify as Latinx, 1% as Filipino, 8% as Asian, 3% as Black/African American, 18% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 3% as multiracial. Madera Community College is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of curriculum responsive to the students it serves.

Under the direction of the Dean of Instruction for STEM and CTE, providing instruction in Agriculture on the Madera Community College campus and/or at off-site community campus locations, the instructor will be responsible for:

• Teaching a full schedule of agriculture and related discipline courses such as: Agriculture business, Plant Science, Animal Science, Agriculture Mechanics, Viticulture, Enology, Horticulture, and Food Science;
  
• Coordination of the overall agriculture program at Madera Community College;
  
• Collaborating with district technology management to implement a Distance Education web page with links for students and faculty;
  
• Developing an agriculture industry advisory committee and coordinating advisory committee meetings at least twice a year;
  
• Creating and revising curriculum including certificate and degree offerings;
  
• Providing leadership in the development and implementation of new curriculum and academic programs that are in demand - eg. viticulture and enology, agriculture mechanics, pest control advisors, etc.;
  
• Meeting regularly with discipline/district peers;
  
• Staying current in the discipline and participating in appropriate professional development activities;
  
• Learning and applying emerging technologies and advances as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized and timely manner;
  
• Increasing enrollment and completion, assisting students in job placement and follow-up with students in work experience and internship/externship opportunities;
  
• Serving as advisor for co-curricular activities;
  
• Participating in recruitment activities with high school agriculture programs through Agriculture Ambassador Program, FFA competitive committees, workshops and activities;
  
• Developing student entrepreneurial direct marketing opportunities;
  
• Developing, monitoring and maintaining program budget including Perkins and Strong Workforce budgets and projects;
  
• Developing and managing local, state and federal grants and funding terms and conditions; and
  
• Participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;
  
• Serving on and participating in department, division, college, and district committees as needed;
  
• Working on assignments in a variety of settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed; and
  
• Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of faculty as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.

Minimum Qualifications:
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom; AND

• Masters in agriculture, agriculture science, education with a specialization in agriculture or other agricultural area (including: agricultural business, agricultural engineering, agricultural mechanics, agronomy, animal science, enology, environmental (ornamental) horticulture, equine science, forestry, natural resources, plant science, pomology, soil science, viticulture or other agriculture science)
  OR
  
• A valid California Community College Credential;
  
  OR
  
• The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency)

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience and skill with addressing issues of equity in the classroom;
  
• Recent experience working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;
  
• Willingness to examine and remediate ones instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;
  
• Experience working with a diverse student population;
  
• Related work and professional experience;
  
• Ability to contribute to institutional vitality and growth;
  
• Teaching experience in agriculture and related disciplines at post-secondary level;
  
• Experience and demonstrated ability to teach a variety of courses in agriculture and related discipline;
  
• Ability to recruit students and involve students in leadership activities;
  
• Knowledge and experience in the development and assessment of improve student learning outcomes;
  
• Experience in using technology in the instructional setting;
  
• Evidence of and commitment to working as part of a team;
  
• Interpersonal and leadership skills to interact productively with a wide range of staff, students, consultants, government agencies and community members;
  
• Experience collaborating with community partners;
  
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and staff; and
  
• Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals;
  
• Currently hold or be willing to obtain Class A California DMV drivers license with passenger endorsement;
  
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;

Conditions of Employment:
177 duty days per year.

Salary and Benefits:
Starting salary is $57,750 $86,942 based on education and experience. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,160 is available. Salary and stipends are prorated based on the number of duty days assigned.In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure:
Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.

The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the recommended candidates. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President and President for final interviews.

A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.

It is located just 20 minutes from the South entrance to Yosemite National Park and just minutes away from the Sierra National Forest. The campus provides opportunity and access to higher education for a geographically isolated population in Eastern Madera County. The campus currently serves Oakhurst, Mariposa County, Coarsegold, North Fork and the surrounding communities with over 75 courses in a variety of study areas.
