POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Safe Passages’ After School Program provides quality enrichment support services to children and youth through a strong youth development framework. Safe Passages is a leading provider in the delivering of school-based After School Programs within Union City, New Haven Unified School District as follows; Guy Emanuele Elementary School (EES), Searles Elementary School (SES), Alvarado Elementary School (AES), Eastin Elementary School (EAS), Hillview Crest Elementary School (HVC), Kitayama Elementary School (KIT), Pioneer Elementary School (PIO), Cesar Chavez Middle School (CCMS), and Itliong-Vera Cruz Middle School (IVCMS).

Primary Responsibilities:

The After-School Program Enrichment Instructor will be part of an after-school team dedicated to providing high quality programming to youth and their families. The After School Program Enrichment Instructor will facilitate activities for students in a structured and supportive environment. After School program enrichment sessions will be delivered in person, and the Enrichment Instructor will maintain COVID social distancing and safety protocols required by the CDC, California Department of Public Health, Alameda County, New Haven School District (NHUSD) and the school site. The After-School Enrichment Instructor will be supervised by Safe Passages Lead Enrichment Instructor and the After School Program Specialists.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and instruct enrichment activities for youth within social emotional learning, S.T.E.A.M, health and fitness, youth leadership, and social justice.
  • Provide youth development best practices, monitor student progress and collect surveys as appropriate.
  • Prepare students for performances or presentations at showcases and family events.
  • Ensure program safety by implementing and enforcing all NHUSD, School Site, and Safe Passages policies.
  • Complete weekly lesson plans to be submitted via Google Classroom.
  • Participate in weekly collaborative and staff meetings online and trainings.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated children and youth instructions and facilitation experience (volunteer/paid) working in an urban K-12 environment.
  • Ability to work with children, youth, families, and staff from a diverse range of backgrounds and abilities.
  • Must be dedicated and able to commit to the entire school year. No exceptions.
  • Must have a High School Diploma.
  • At least 48 semester units from an accredited college or passing grade on Instructional Aid.
  • Clearance of TB test, COVID vaccination, and background (fingerprint) check.
  • Bilingual applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • High level of cultural competency.
  • Classroom management skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement weekly lesson plans.
  • Strong Communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience working on a team.
  • Experience using Microsoft Offices and Google Suites.
  • Quarterly professional development will be provided.

Employment Classification: This is a part-time hourly position. The position does not include medical, dental or vision benefits.

Work Schedule: 14-20 hours per week, M-F; based on NHUSD school calendar (holidays and teacher professional developments). Must be available all days of the week.

Start Date and End Date: Monday, August 9, 2021- Thursday, May 26, 2022

Compensation: $16 - $18 per hour/paid weekly depending on education, experience and references.
