Position Information

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites resumes for full-time, twelve month, exempt positions with full benefits. Salary is based on experience and qualifications. The position will report to the Director of Admissions.

The Admissions Counselor/Recruiter will be responsible for recruiting freshman and transfer students, conducting outreach program registration, counseling students, corresponding with prospective students, parents and guidance counselor; evaluating student applications for admissions; planning and implementing campus visitations and recruitment receptions; and maintaining and broadening communication networks with prospective students, guidance counselors, and stakeholders.



Responsibilities
  • Extensive overnight travel, frequent nights and weekend work to attend admissions and recruitment functions which will include extensive driving.
  • Serve as primary point of contact within assigned geographic territory.
  • Evaluate applications for undergraduate admissions to include data entry, analyzing standardized test scores, high school and college transcripts and all other supporting documents according to the admission’s process.
  • Maintain documentation and records of student files and communication with students, parents, transfer advisors, and stakeholders.
  • Document and maintain admissions and recruitment activity in accordance to department and university standards.
  • Correspond with prospective students as follow-up to assist them in completing the admissions process via telephone, email, and social media.
  • Continuous training and maintain industry standards and best practices.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with experience in higher education. Excellent communication to include written communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to manage details required.
  • Must be able to manage a travel schedule; comfortably and reliably travel independently;
  • Ability to give effective presentations to prospective students and influencers;
  • Ability to drive for extended periods at a time;
  • Organize several contact points and meeting points with prospective students;
  • Learn necessary recruiting information and confidently share the “UMES” story;
  • Stand at a college fair table for hours at a time;
  • Enthusiastically engage in conversation with high school students, parents, and key influencers in the college decision process; stay organized using electronic tools and technology;
  • Be available by e-mail to contact prospective families and the office of admissions; and
  • Use SIS systems remotely


Certifications/Registrations

Valid driver’s license.
