Job Information The School of Music at Florida International University offers degree programs in Music Performance, Composition, Education, Business, Technology, as well as general appreciation courses for non-music majors, employing adjunct instructors in each discipline or subject. In addition to the academic courses shared by all programs in the School of Music, each program offers introductory and advanced courses specific to its discipline. Many of these courses are taught by adjunct instructors. As a minimum qualification to be considered for any of these positions, the prospective adjunct instructor must hold a master’s degree and/or demonstrated skill and knowledge of the instructional material. In order to teach graduate level courses, anyone holding a master’s degree must demonstrate enough experience and knowledge of the subject to be credentialed by the FIU Graduate School. Preferred qualifications for all subjects would include a doctorate, or terminal degree in the area of instruction. In some cases, adjunct instructors in Music academics also teach applied lessons, or direct music ensembles. To give instruction in these areas, the adjunct should have the requisite training or degrees in the area of instruction, as well extensive active performance or teaching experience in the subject matter. Preferred qualifications for all subjects would include a doctorate, or terminal degree in the area of instruction and extensive active performance or teaching experience in the subject matter.
