Actuarial Specialist - Defined Contribution Consultant Details

Use your retirement plan consulting and/or actuarial expertise to help drive better retirement outcomes through a customized process that is optimally tailored for each plan sponsor, often within the Defined Contribution arena.

The position resides within Retirement Plan Strategies (RPS); a team of investment and actuarial professionals focused on delivering consultative solutions to retirement plan sponsors. The associate in this role is primarily responsible for supporting financial wellness solutions to Prudential Retirement clients, with a heavy focus on retirement plan design consulting. The Design Specialist will construct, review and support models as part of a collaborative consultative team passionate about providing retirement security through defined contribution plans as well as other qualified and non-qualified retirement programs.

The Design Specialist will collaborate closely with RPS retirement actuaries, other members of our Full Service Solutions (FSS) organization, client facing and sales teams, plan sponsors and their financial intermediaries. We will help to drive better retirement outcomes through a customized process that is optimally and individually designed for each plan sponsor.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support RPS, and other organizations in FSS and beyond, to develop, evaluate, communicate, and implement custom retirement plan design solutions that optimize the retirement spend and meet the goals of the sponsoring organization, specializing in Defined Contribution (DC) design and retirement income adequacy.
  • Provide insight and support on retirement compliance issues for the organization, especially within the DC space.
  • Support the RPS management team’s initiatives to further develop and expand their consulting services within a market leading organization, with a primary focus on the DC Plan design product.
  • Provide support to the organization’s retention, business development, and revenue goals.
  • Mentor and develop staff to broaden the organization’s plan design and Defined Contribution subject matter expertise.

Qualifications

  • Degree in actuarial science, mathematics or finance.
  • At least 5 years of retirement experience
  • Experience in retirement plan design preferred
  • Knowledge of defined contribution plan rules and testing requirements
  • A background in retirement plan consulting with an understanding of best practices for retirement plans.
  • Preferably possesses Society of Actuaries or ASPPA credentials or has desire to obtain or expand on such credentials.
  • Consulting experience on Non-Qualified plans is desirable.
  • Highly skilled in MS Excel, with a passion for constructing and developing actuarial models.
  • Proven ability to think creatively and assist in designing custom tailored solutions for plan sponsors
  • Ability to clearly organize, analyze, document and communicate results.
  • Team player with the ability to partner and collaborate with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent project management skills.

Ability to respond quickly to change, demonstrating flexibility in response to new or unanticipated developments.
