Overview: LifeLong Medical Care is looking for part-time Activity Leaders in Berkeley. The Activity Leader assists in the day-to-day programming & implementation of a high quality comprehensive elementary school-aged (K-5) before & after school program that emphasizes increased academic performance in school through tutoring, recreational, academic & cultural enrichment activities. This is a great opportunity for those looking to enter the field of teaching and/or social services.
20 hours per week (Flexible hours/days if in school, must be able to provide your school schedule. Please note if working less than 20 hours the position will not be benefit eligible.)- Transitional Kindergarten/Kindergarten - 5th Grade Activity Leader work hours:
- 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm Mon,Tue,Thu,
- 1:30 pm - 6:00 pm Wed
- 2:30 pm - 6:00 pm Fri
- Compensation: $17/hour
- Position length: based on the BUSD academic calendar, the first day of training is the week before the academic year
starts. The last day of work is the last day in June for the academic school year (closed during summer break).
- Attends weekly or bi-weekly staff meetings in regards to programming updates, staffing, students, etc.
- Attends training during staff development days or nights.
- Attends meetings with grade-level teams (KV Staff & School-Day Teachers) 3-4 times a year.
- Regularly communicates with teachers, specialists, on-site staff, & parents as needed.

- Maintains a quiet environment for students to read independently (15-45 minutes depending on grade level).
- Helps students with math homework and other assignments (grades 3-5).
- Implements ASH stations consisting of quiet academic games, cooperative games, etc. (grades K-2, and for students in grades 3-5 that finish their homework early).
- Helps regulate students' behavior within the classroom.
- Manages & helps students clean up the classroom being used.
- Manages Daily Activities (usually with a partner)
- Plans for daily activities one week in advance with their grade level partner
- Prepares materials for and implements projects including but not limited to sports, games, art, and STEM
(Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) activities. - Plans for daily activities one week in advance with a partner.
- Plans and teaches a 7-8 week Enrichment Class on Fridays.
- Submits daily summary reports.
- Completes any other tasks assigned by the Director.
Qualifications:- Knowledge of child development, especially of school-aged children.
- Knowledge of conflict resolution procedures for children.
- Knowledge of elementary school subjects.
- Ability to individually supervise & effectively run a group of up to 20 children.
- Ability to establish a good working relationship with children, families, & adults.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking.
- Well-organized with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and exercise initiative, with an eagerness to learn.
- Approachable and able to work with a variety of personalities.
- Ability to evaluate a situation and determine what action to take.
- Must be reliable and flexible in helping the program meet the needs of the students.
- Conduct oneself in internal and external settings in a way that reflects positively on LifeLong Medical Care as an organization of professional, confident and sensitive staff.
- Preferably CPR & First-Aid Certified.
