This position will provide educational leadership for 4-H Youth Development in Aroostook County. 4-H is a non-formal, experiential education program for youth, and adults working with those youth, to develop life skills necessary to be self-directing, productive, and contributing members of society. The person in this position will work with 4-H volunteers and the 4-H Leaders Association to foster an open, educational environment to promote the learning and growth of 4-H youth. They will develop and provide educational programs and resources that address the needs of youth in Aroostook County in partnership with other Extension staff in the region to create a multidisciplinary approach to youth development. A priority will be to strengthen the 4-H programs in Aroostook County through school and community engagement with an emphasis on strengthening the 4-H Science programs along with a commitment to be involved with multi-county programming and supporting the animal science committees. Typical hiring range for this position is $37,000 to $41,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Experience working with youth and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated skill in designing and delivering community-based educational programs with an emphasis on youth development.
  • Demonstrated management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated facilitation skills, which includes the ability to handle conflict.
  • Demonstrated experience in prioritizing and managing logistics of events, conferences and programs.
  • Collaborative work skills with other agencies and organizations.
  • Demonstrated effective communication using oral, written and electronic methods.
  • Demonstrated experience with computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel both in and out-of-state, usually requiring a valid driver's license.
  • Independent as well as teamwork skills; must be self-motivated and directed with the ability to achieve measurable results and manage multiple tasks in an autonomous work environment.
  • Ability to occasionally lift 30 to 50 pounds.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development, Education, Science or related field.
  • Knowledge of Cooperative Extension and its 4-H Youth Development programs.
  • Volunteer management and development experience.
  • Experience with science education for youth.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing, implementing and managing program funds.
  • Grant writing experience.
  • Community education/teaching experience.
  • Successful supervisory experience.
