Greenroads Foundation (www.greenroads.org) seeks an Engineering Intern for a part-time (16-24 hours per week, average 20 hours) civil engineering internship up to 12 weeks. As Engineering Intern, you will be assigned to support a variety of development, research, analysis, and writing tasks for our internationally recognized Rating System as we launch the third version.


The anticipated start dates for this position are January 19 - February 8 through and end dates April 23 - April 30.

As an intern, you are choosing to spend your quarter or semester with us. You will become a daily representative of Greenroads and its mission to benefit communities and the environment by recognizing sustainable transportation projects and promoting sustainability education for transportation infrastructure around the world.

Critical Responsibilities


  • Data collection and analysis for the Project Rating Program
  • Maintaining and managing the project performance and score data.
  • Developing templates and project support materials for the Project Rating Program
  • Support proof of concept development for new versions of the Greenroads Rating System
  • General support and assistance on our membership and education program
  • Performing other projects as assigned.

Must-Haves


  • Participating in an accredited engineering program in civil engineering at the senior or graduate level. Studies in urban planning, environmental sciences, construction management, or other built environment related coursework will be considered.
  • Exceptional written communication and mathematical skills.
  • Experience with reading and interpreting engineering plan drawings and technical specification documents.
  • Excellent information gathering and research skills, especially from scholarly publications.
  • Analyzing and synthesizing complex information.
  • Ability to work independently without daily supervision.
  • Ability to handle and organize a high volume of information.
  • Ability to recall facts and basic concepts, and explain them.
  • Abilty to use information in new situations
  • Able to correctly prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Able to function effectively in an ambiguous environment.
  • Functional knowledge of sustainable transportation generally, gained through time or higher education, focus on growing professional skills and depth of knowledge.
  • Executes instructions, learns by doing, reworks errors
  • Able to flawlessly execute well-defined tasks, and provides definition to ill-defined areas of work.
  • Demonstrated good judgement, problem-solving and decision-making skills

  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate
  • Sustainable Transportation Professional (STP) Level 1 accreditation
  • Experience reading or preparing engineering documents, plans, and specifications
  • Construction or construction management experience
  • Non-profit experience
  • Proactive, sense of ownership, can work independently and self-sufficiently

Supervision


You will report directly to the CEO. You may also interact and cooperate directly with past and current Project Teams.


This position does not have direct reports.

  • Half-time (16-24 hours per week), hourly, non-exempt, temporary employment
  • A skill assessment is required for this position.
  • Prorated paid holidays
  • Internships last approximately 10-12 weeks, to be determined upon hire.

Primary Responsibility


This internship position is intentionally designed as an intense learning experience where you will develop knowledge and be able to apply it wherever you go next. We expect you to arrive not fully formed, ready to learn and ready to work hard. Your primary responsibility is exploring and producing work.
