Bethel School District is seeking appropriately licensed candidates for the position of 1.0 FTE district-wide Athletic Director whose primary function is based at Willamette High School. This position is an administrator position and requires candidates to currently possess or be able to acquire an Oregon Administrator License.

Athletic Director Position Summary

The Athletic Director position:

• Manages and oversees the athletic and activity programs for Willamette High School, and the District as assigned
• Collaborates with club advisors and communicates effectively with stakeholders, to develop, implement, organize, coordinate, and lead all aspects of athletic programs for the betterment of students and student-athletes
• Supervises home and away athletic contests as per league and OSAA guidelines.
• Coordinates, trains, guides, supervises and evaluates coaches, volunteers and athletic supervisors
• Works under the direction of the Willamette Principal and provides Administrator backup, as needed
• Coordinates district-wide activities that support Willamette Athletics and athletic programs
• Performs other duties, as assigned

Essential Functions

Administrative/Organizational:

The Athletic Director is responsible for creating and maintaining team schedules and budgets, organizing and coordinating contests and transportation to and from events, and coordinates the use of facilities and fields for district and non-district use. The Athletic Director effectively monitors, evaluates and addresses student conduct, including but not limited to student supervision, student behavior management, and student discipline. The Athletic Director coordinates and initiates fundraising for the improvement of facilities and purchasing of necessary materials and equipment. The position promotes greater student participation in extracurricular activities.

Hiring, Training, Supervising and Evaluating Coaches and Advisors:

The Athletic Director is responsible for recruitment and screening of all applicants for Willamette coaching positions and recommendations to Human Resources for contracts for coaches. The Athletic Director tracks and monitors mandatory trainings, and schedules and publicizes professional development opportunities for club and athletic coaches and volunteers. The Athletic Director ensures compliance with all school, District and OSAA guidelines, rules and regulations for student athletes. This position investigates and facilitates resolutions of concerns or complaints related to athletics, athletic programs, coaches, and volunteers.

Communication:

The Athletic Director resolves problems, issues and concerns that may arise between coaches, individual athletes and athletic programs. This position acts as the first point of contact for students and their parents or guardians, when there are concerns about an athletic or activities programs or coach. The Athletic Director acts as a liaison to Booster, athletic, parent/guardian and community organizations.

Supervision:

The Athletic Director is responsible for directly supervising home athletic contests and/or arranging for others to do so and will supervise away games, as needed or as directed.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of OSAA rules and regulations and Willamette HS student conduct code
• Knowledge of District and school policies, procedures, and rules
• Able to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines and follow up on assignments with a minimum of direction and under stressful circumstances
• Able to work effectively with a diverse range of high school age students and their parents, and employees
• Able to communicate well, with a wide-range of constituents, in writing and verbally
• Able to work extensive hours as after-hours work is routine and expected
• Able to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, community partners, and other stakeholders
• Act as school representative in league and OSAA meetings
• Coordinate with Willamette Athletic Trainer to ensure health and safety of student-athletes
• Work in conjunction with school bookkeeper to manage fees and fee waivers
• Coordinate a safe and effective game experience for visiting teams, officials, and support staff
• Able to prepare, monitor and audit the Athletics budget and effectively implement the adopted budget
• Supervise the purchase and auditing of equipment inventories
• Track and submit expense requests and receipts in a timely and efficient manner
• Assume responsibility for the safety of all facets of the Athletics program
• Ensure complete compliance of Title IX and ADA regulations and actively address any Title IX and ADA concerns

• Understand the dynamics of being a student-athlete and develops supports that encourage students to maintain high academic and fitness levels
• Use data to inform decisions

• Incorporate feedback and professional learning into practices
• Maintain collaborative and collegial relationships with coaches, volunteers, building staff, other administrators and district staff (be a team player)

• Recognize students’ different needs, abilities and interests and be flexible to adjust instruction to meet those needs, abilities and interests
• Promote the Athletics program, school and district with staff, students, families and the community

• Possess skills and abilities to effectively coach and evaluate assigned staff
• Maintain a high standard of ethics in all professional relationships, actions and decision

Salary range: $87,636 - $113,458, dependent on experience

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university
• Oregon Administrator License
• Culturally proficient skills and strategies
• Prior experience as a high school varsity coach
• Availability for evening and weekend hours and full or partial workdays during winter, spring and summer breaks, as needed

• New staff must be fully vaccinated to meet the COVID-19 vaccine mandate or have an approved exception.

Highly desirable qualifications:

• Previous high school leadership role
• Bilingual or multilingual abilities, preferably Spanish/English
• Experience working in richly diverse school communities and environments

Experience:

• Minimum five years of working as a teacher
• Minimum five years working in a leadership role in athletics and activities
