POSITION OVERVIEW:
This is a 1-3 year opportunity. The AmeriCorps VISTA Outreach & Education Coordinator will use marketing and communications to engage and educate the public on the complex issues of poverty and homelessness, with the goal to develop compassion, increase support, and assist more individuals.
This will help those experiencing poverty, homelessness and systemic exclusion in racial and ethnic communities by ensuring the community knows about Ritter Center and its programs, understands the challenges created by poverty, sees programmatic efficacy, and supports its mission.
The ideal candidate will have some experience with and strong interest in: community outreach, marketing and communications, research, and technology.
A strong sense of compassion and a willingness to engage community members with varying opinions on homelessness and poverty will be beneficial.
Ritter Center is located in downtown San Rafael, a peri-urban city 19 miles north of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge. The area has some of the best weather, food, culture, and activities in Northern California.
This is a 1-3 year opportunity. This is a hybrid location role primarily based in Ritter Center's offices in San Rafael with some remote working options; some travel is also required to/from our healthcare campus and to/from events. This project will begin in October 2022.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Tour the organization and meet with key department leads to understand the organization’s structure, history, programs, culture and people.
- Meet with Executive Director, Advancement Team and other senior leadership to develop and document comprehensive knowledge about Ritter Center’s past, current and future outreach and education efforts/needs from different perspectives.
- Complete a SWOT analysis of outreach and education as it presently exists at Ritter Center. Review & audit all of Ritter Center’s social channels.
- Research effective outreach and education campaigns and conduct outreach to those organizations to learn what worked & what didn’t.
- Working with the Advancement Team, plan & outline the structure of the engagement and education campaign, including all marketing and communications channels, a podcast & webinar/speaker’s series.
- Implement the campaign (produce/attend outreach events), collect feedback, make necessary changes, report results & make a final presentation about this project.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Marketing and communications qualification or successful past experience preferred
- Strong project management skills required with experience producing outreach materials and attending events
- Confident and comfortable speaking in public
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Strong writing, editing and presenting skills
- Computer software savvy; Skilled in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; design applications a plus;
- Knowledge of social media channel management
