The Alumni Communications Specialist II (ACS-II) has an important role on the Office of Alumni Affairs team, working to increase alumni outreach and engagement with the University. This individual will be responsible for plans and programs that foster good will and positive public relations between the University and its alumni, faculty, staff and friends of Hampton. This position will serve as the team lead for developing, initiating, creating and overseeing a long-term digital marketing campaign as well as spearheading short-term advertising and marketing solutions. This role is ideal for someone with experience in content development, art direction and social media who can expand our brand’s reach locally while increasing brand loyalty and awareness. This role is critical to raising the department’s visibility, enhancing our ability to deepen alumni engagement and build a trusted relationship with all constituents. The incumbent should have a strong grasp of current marketing tools and strategies and be able to lead integrated digital marketing campaigns from concept to execution. The ACS-II will work with the alumni team, supporting teams (such as programmers), and vendors to launch campaigns on time and on budget. In addition, the ideal candidate will be responsible for cultivating relationships with students, administration, and NHAA membership, identifying opportunities to raise visibility of the Office of Alumni Affairs and the University.
- Creates, maintains, and enhances the relationships between the alumni and the University;
- Assists with alumni events both locally and nationally;
- Assists with annual events such as Alumni weekend, parents weekend, assembly meetings and class reunions;
- Develops reports to support office efforts with alumni planning and implementing events;
- Assists with and attends appropriate Alumni Association, Alumni Affairs, and Office of Development events;
- Maintains office records and ensures adherence with policies regarding reporting and respective timelines.
- Works within the fiscal budget;
- Works and participates as an effective member of the overall team;

The alumni communications specialist II (ACS-II) oversees key internal and external communication tools. As the primary communications representative for the Office of Alumni Affairs (OAA), the ACS-II is the chief content strategist for this area. The ACS-II advances OAA's reputation, the institution's reputation and the reputation and stories of Hampton alumni, through purposeful creative and messaging tied to the university's brand and strategic initiatives. The ACS-II provides:
Build the strategy and tactics of specific programming and events within the Office of Alumni Affairs, the Office of Development and the University.
Achieve key performance targets of the display program.
Develop and evangelize new program initiatives leveraging the evolving technical landscape.
Partner with technology teams to create and deliver against aggressive roadmaps.
Define success criteria, design structured tests, and dive deep into data analysis to identify opportunities.
Develop and manage campaigns across a variety of technology platforms, inventory sources, and ad formats, leveraging both internal and external opportunities.
Partner across creative teams to plan, test, optimize, and grow new advertising initiatives.
Communicate channel strategy, plans, and results with stakeholders and senior management.
Plan and execute all digital marketing, including SEO/SEM, marketing database, email, social media and display advertising campaigns.
Design, build and maintain our social media presence on departmental platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Hootsuite, WordPress, iModules, University Tickets)
Manage and execute internal graphic design projects
Measure and report performance of all digital marketing campaigns, and assess against goals (ROI and KPIs)
Identify trends and insights, and optimize spend and performance based on the insights
Brainstorm new and creative growth strategies.
- BS/MS degree in communications, marketing or a related field
- Proven working experience in digital marketing
- Demonstrable experience leading and managing SEO/SEM, marketing database, email, social media and/or display advertising campaigns
- Highly creative with experience in identifying target audiences and devising digital campaigns that engage, inform and motivate
- Experience in optimizing landing pages and user funnels
- Solid knowledge of website analytics tools
- Strong analytical skills and data-driven thinking
- Up-to-date with the latest trends and best practices in online marketing and measurement
- Ability to work a flexible schedule for events scheduled on evenings and weekends.
