Job Description

Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON)

The ADON is a registered professional nurse who ensures quality of hospice patient care in the patient's residence. Primary functions is for the overall administration of the clinical departments and monitoring of appropriate staffing and productivity. Coordinates care with interdisciplinary team, patient/family and referring agency. Monitors and analyzes QA/PI issues and directs clinical staff with regard to agency policies and procedures. Reports to Administrator.

Responsibilities of ADON includes:

  • Directs and coordinates clinical department; assumes responsibility for continuity, quality, and safety of services delivered in compliance with state and federal regulation. (Conditions of participation).
  • Promotes the philosophy and administrative policies of the agency, in an effort to ensure quality of patient care.
  • Supervises and provides direction to subordinates, in an effort to ensure quality, compliance with plan of care, assessment and reassessment of patients needs and continuity of services by appropriate health care personnel.
  • Monitors QA/PI program and assures appropriate corrective measures are performed.
  • Promotes QA/PI compliance with all fiscal intermediary and/or other third party payors, through education, coaching, and other assistance as necessary.
  • Performs Quality Assurance of Clinical charting
  • ADON is a member of the interdisciplinary team (IDT) and assist in development of the IDT plan and participates in QA/PI actives.
  • Prospectively reviews all OASIS assessments to ensure appropriateness, completeness, and compliance with federal and state regulations and organization policy.
  • Ensures appropriate ICD coding and sequencing as it relates to the patient’s medical condition, including any co-morbidity.
  • Consults with appropriate clinical staff to clarify any data integrity issues and works with clinician to make appropriate corrections per organization policy
  • Reviews visit utilization for appropriateness of care guidelines and patient condition; reports potential financial losses and/or under utilization to the clinical manager/designee.
  • Meets mandatory continuing education requirements of the requirements of the agency/licensing board.
  • Promotes and educates regarding the concepts of the infection control and standard precautions in coordinating/performing patient care activities to prevent contamination and transmission of disease.
  • Performs duties in an office environment or clinical setting during agency operating hours.
  • If required, to make patient visits, may work in patients home in various conditions.
  • Uses effective interpersonal relations and communication skills, facilitates the use of the skills by other team members to achieve desirable outcomes.

Education:
Graduate of an accredited Diploma, Associate or Baccalaureate school of nursing

Licensure:
State of Texas licensed as a Registered Nurse or in accordance with the broad of nurse examiners rules for nurse licensure compact (NCL), current state drivers license.
