Work from general instructions, drawings, engineering information, and sketches, etc., to complete complex rigging and mechanical installation assignments on any model aircraft.
Level aircraft into proper rigging position and finalize installation and alignment of control components.
Typical rigging assignment includes, but is not limited to, rigging main rotor head, engine, main and emergency throttle controls, and tail rotor.
Adjust, set, and safety control rods.
Set cable tensions.
Set and safety control stops.
Use tensiometer to bring cable adjustments to within tolerance.
Hook-up and apply external hydraulic power to the aircraft.
Check/evaluate the accuracy of settings for varied aircraft configurations by using checking fixtures and taking readings with power on.
Typical installations include, but are not limited to, main landing gear, tail rotor, oil cooler, cyclic pitch controls, cabin and cockpit heaters, rescue hoist, transmission fairing, pitch sticks, and primary servo.
Rework parts to obtain proper shape or fit.
Occasionally fabricate detail parts and/or tools required to expedite the completion of urgent assignments.
Perform any operation necessary to fasten parts, such as file, fit, drill, ream, countersink, bolt, rivet, etc.
Lead and instruct other workers as required; coach and train associates.
At the direction of supervision, perform a variety of other duties, usually of a related or similar nature, such as correcting inspection reported discrepancies, and performing layout work necessary to incorporate changes or modification on aircraft.
Communicate potential problems and process improvement suggestions to supervision and the technical community as required.
Perform operator checklist as required and comply with all EH&S procedures.
As required segregate waste material and follow good housekeeping practices.
Basic Qualifications:
Requires well-rounded knowledge of assembly fitting and installation.
Requires ability to use arithmetic involving decimals and fractions.
3 to 5 years experience
Desired Skills:
Requires well-rounded knowledge of assembly fitting, installation, and aircraft rigging methods. Also requires ability to use arithmetic involving decimals and fractions, work from complicated drawings and engineering specifications, and use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, scale, checking fixtures, etc. Equivalent to 4 years technical training in the aircraft mechanical skills. Must maintain current certification(s) as required.
3 to 5 years experience.
