As an AI Researcher, you will setup large-scale experiments and deploy promising ideas quickly and broadly, managing deadlines and deliverables while applying the latest theories to develop new and improved products, processes, or technologies. From creating proof of concepts and prototyping implementations to designing new architectures, our AI Researchers work on real-world problems that span the breadth of various lines of business. As an Artificial Researcher, you'll also actively contribute to the wider Shell.ai community by sharing and publishing your findings, with ideas inspired by internal projects as well as from collaborations with strategic partners, universities, and technical institutes all over the world.

This position can be based in either Houston or Boston Shell offices.
What’s the role -
You will be responsible for innovation, concept development and productizing to AI/deep learning applications with direct business impact. More specifically, your role will include:
Contribute to and lead deep learning and AI projects
Lead and co-develop technical proposals, research activities including design sprints, literature reviews, field research, and prototype building.
Use innovative research to influence relevant products and partner teams across Shell, and to have company and societal impact
Work on innovative ideas that can bring the right change in the energy industry
Implement AI algorithms, appraise new technology, and deliver on milestones
Contribute to the portfolio of projects in your team; engage with all internal and external stakeholders
Connect with vendors, universities, and other external entities to bring in new ideas and solutions
Help Shell businesses and technology platforms to shape up their AI strategy and roadmap
Special Challenges:
Ability to collaborate with multiple engineering, product, and non-technical teams in a cross-functional environment
Building constructive and trusting relationships with mostly remote business stakeholders
Dealing with challenges in data acquisition from other parts of the business
Skills and Requirements
What we need from you -
When it comes to developing one of Shell’s forward-looking innovation programs, your strategic thinking, and strategic partnership development capability will make all the difference. You should have the capability to develop working relationships where you will connect the internal and external innovators, take up their innovations, and help to shape it into a robust product that is ready to generate commercial value.
Furthermore, you should have:
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Masters or PhD degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, theoretical science, statistics, or operational research with experience in large-scale parameterization AI and HPC computing.
For this role we prefer a deep learning specialist with substantial experience working on images, timeseries, video material, optimization
A problem-solving mindset and an enthusiasm for learning new skills
Must have strong technical skills to develop advanced analytics algorithms/models.
Skilled in data design integrity
Skilled in value exploitation
Awareness of lifecycle and data management is desirable
Strong passion for experimentation and extensive experience in solving hard AI problems
Experience in DL, DRL, AI applications delivery in a corporate environment
Proven examples of implementing experimental pipelines and prototyping AI applications
Demonstrated people management and stakeholder engagement skills
Solid professional software engineering skills

Regularly following the scientific journals and regularly publishing in scientific journals
Job Experience Requirements:
Candidates for the position should have five (5) years’ work experience in applying latest AI methods to applied use cases using real data. This requires demonstration knowledge of:
Strong TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Keras experience
Knowledge of large-scale adversarial training for representation learning
A mathematical background covering some subset of linear algebra, probability, multivariate calculus, geometry, and numerical methods will be invaluable
Hands-on code development (Python, Java, MATLAB, R,)
Experience using Git to manage models, and source code
Experience in Cloud stacks and architecture, such as Azure, AWS, etc. Comfort with some flavor of Unix shell environment (e.g., bash
