The Division Agronomist provides overall agronomic support to division team members. This position is also responsible for providing training to location sales teams to help them develop both basic and advanced agronomic knowledge so they can add value to our customers. This role also manages the research for developing new markets for Helena Products Group (HPG) and basic manufacturer's products utilizing AGRIntelligence (AI) to help solve customers' agronomic problems.
Helena's trademarked "AGRIntelligence" business, often referred to as "AI" internally, was developed by Helena over 20 years ago to focus exclusively on creating new and innovative technologies to analyze each specific field to help guide our growers critical decisions and prevent potential problems in an effort to help make them more successful year after year.
Candidates must live in, or be willing to relocate to, the designated sales territory.
The employee's primary duty must be the performance of office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of Helena or Helena's customers. This also includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgement with respect to matters of significance.
What your day may look like
- Works with sales representatives, AI information specialists, and Helena product managers, to develop sound agronomic fertility programs.
- Plans and presents at agronomic meetings to sales locations and customers.
- Maintains current information resources by attending agronomic seminars and developing a network of university and industry contacts.
- Assists the branches in developing new sales skills in fertility practices.
- Works with AI team to promote and support AI products and services.
- Trains branches on agronomy practices and services along with AI products and services.
- Works with the business unit agronomist, national agronomist and technical service agronomist to update soil fertility equations and tissue sufficiency ranges as needed.
- Promotes AI as a tool to market and position other Helena products and services.
- Assists in setting up research and demonstration plots to promote AI products.
- Keeps up with advancements in the precision ag/ information management industry including field testing new tools and technology.
- Works with other agronomists across the company to develop training materials.
- Integrates AI, agronomy, Helena Products Group (HPG) and seed into sales programs.
- Works with fertilizer managers to develop resources for agronomic training and gets supplier contacts.
- Develops working relationships with basic manufacturers' technical service teams on new compounds prior to registration and sale.
- Other work-related duties as assigned by your leader.
- Reliable and regular attendance is expected.
Education and experience needed for this position
- Bachelor's degree in an agricultural science discipline is required.
- Five years of experience in sales or agronomic consulting is required.
- A master's degree is preferred.
- Certification as a Certified Crop Advisor (or working toward certification) is required.
- 4R Certification (based on territory) is preferred.
- Pest Control Advisor license (based on territory) is preferred. If this position is located in California, it is required.

Your work environment and the physical aspects of the job

The work environment for this position may require the employee to work in an outdoor setting in all types of weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements. When working outdoors and possibly around moving equipment/mechanical parts, the employee may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, chemical and biological hazards, vibrations and a risk of electrical shock. This position requires you to use your hands for many different tasks and to talk, hear, walk, stand and sit. You may be occasionally required to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
